Whether from the Boating Community, Family and/or Friends we have been keeping track recommendations for our future travels.

Do let us know if you have a recommendation for us!

Special Notes

  • Albemarle Loop
  • Bras d’Or Yacht Club (Baddeck, Nova Scotia, Canada) invites cruisers to use its dinghy dock and its bar; a selection of nearby restaurants.
  • Consider Mystic (CT) or Noank (CT) vs New London (CT).
  • Consider Staten Island (NY), Atlantic City (NJ) or Cape May (NJ).
  • Do not leave the Cape Cod Canal into Buzzards Bay, in the afternoon, with a favorable canal current, into the prevailing smokey SWer. It will beat the crap out of you and your boat with large standing waves and can be dangerous.
  • Dredged channel running SW of Mass Maritime and Onset (MA), a wind against currents there can make for a very sloppy hour. Not to mention often a lot of fast traffic coming and going.
  • Enter & Exit “Hells Gate” at Slack Tide (Others You’re Battling the Current).
  • From Gloucester MA, look at an overnight in Onset MA. This is at the far end of the Cape Cod Canal, so check the Canal current for timing. Also study the ATONs for the turn off the Canal, since it is a narrow entrance and you may have a strong canal current pushing you sideways. In Onset, you have two marina options next to each other: the Point Independence Yacht Club and Safe Harbor Onset.
  • Harbors of refuge on either side of the southern entrance to the canal, anchor comfortably outside of Mattapoisett (MA) to wait for more favorable conditions.
  • Marriott Hotel (Charleston, SC) (Offers Free Shuttle Service Downtown).
  • Publix Super Market (With Docks) – Hollywood, FL.
  • Rent a car in Lunenburg (Nova Scotia, Canada) and drive across to see the Bay of Fundy.
  • Side Trip up the Potomac to Washington, DC (Free Museums).
