Special Comments:

  • Awoken at 6:39AM by aggressive wakes.
  • Today, marks the 24th Anniversary of 9/11. A day across our nation that everyone recalls the exact moment when news broke about the terrorist plane crashes in our country. For the 2977 killed, we will never forget!
  • We have passed on Bay Bridge many times but, under it is always our favorite. There’s a traffic whistle as you approach, close your eyes for a second and you would think you’re in New York City.
  • All the years we’ve been together, I’ve never known or noticed Jacques to play air guitar. I smiled as that changed today, as he jammed out to the song, Starting Over by Chris Stapleton. Living proof there’s always a first for everything!
  • The clouds in this area were amazing, like huge popcorn puffs or reachable cotton candy.
  • As we were approaching our anchorage spot, we heard and saw two sonic jets above us, closely side by side.
  • Our cell phones noted a Coastal Flood Advisory.
  • At anchorage port side is clear blue skies and starboard is gray.

Arrival: Safe Harbor Zahniser’s (Solomons, MD) 12:40PM (Slip F9)

Distance Cruised: 25 Miles

Special Comments:

  • Last evening we tried to sleep with the windows open without air conditioning but, the mugginess woke us up by 4:30AM. We were fortunate to run our berth air conditioning on battery and more importantly fall back to sleep for a few hours.
  • The local crab vessels were kind by not passing us full throttle while at anchorage. However, come morning they were circling around us dropping lines as we were getting ready for departure. No lines were insight upon our anchorage arrival.
  • We’re looking forward to a short cruise today, only 3 – 4 hours, so hopefully Cruising Zombies won’t set in as we have much to do during our short Solomons, MD stay.
  • Jacques hanging on the partially open door looking out says, “this reminds me being on a cruise, just our own lil ship”. My response, just minus the crew from the helm seat.
  • Portside waters looks like Pirates dropped their Swarovski Crystals.
  • Noticed a 3/4 moon on starboard.
  • Interesting to see commercial flights above us cross over our bow. We must be within a common route.
  • Cove Point LNG (Lusby, MD) is the first East Coast facility exporter.
  • Cove Point Lighthouse (Lusby, MD), 7 acre property is open to the public to tour on limited days and Keeper’s House is available as a vacation rental to accommodate up to 16.
  • Surprise hail behind us were Len & Michelle (M/V Marissa Michelle) as we approach Solomons, MD.
  • Upon Safe Harbor Zahniser’s (Solomons, MD) after check-in hour (12:30PM) it was a dominoes effect of vessel arrivals. As though every vessel communicated prior.
  • Disappointed to notice prior acquaintance of Bill & Rosemary T M/V Realm (N5726) to be in the lift for some work to be done.
  • Regardless, as to how well insulated this vessel is, clearly one can still hear the sonic jets below deck. Imagine long term slip holders get used to the rumble. At first it sounds like a cigarette boat revving up their engine next to you then a high pitch noise.
  • Well, thanks to the complimentary shuttle service of Safe Harbor Zahniser’s (Solomons, MD) Jacques was successful in retrieving his package that he had intercepted Georgetown, MD to have with us.
  • We love that Safe Harbor Zahniser’s (Solomons, MD) has Amazon lockers onsite. As we were able to coordinate a delivery without delaying our Georgetown, MD departure. Kudos!

Next Stop: Somers Cove Marina (Crisfield, MD) (Sunday, 9/14/25)

Saturday, September 13, 2025 (Day 4)

Docked: Safe Harbor Zahniser’s (Solomons, MD) (Slip F9)

Special Comments:

  • Disappointed my body failed me by not allowing me to sleep in. A 4:30AM awakening, UGH!
  • A day of chores onboard and errands.
  • We enjoyed our Uber drivers; the first guy a Navy Veteran and the second guy from Uganda. Both interesting folks and made for far too short commute.

Next Stop: Somers Cove Marina (Crisfield, MD) (Sunday, 9/14/25)

Sunday, September 14, 2025 (Day 5)

Departure: Safe Harbor Zahniser’s (Solomons, MD) (Slip F9) 7AM

  • Calm Waters
  • Cruising Average Speed 7.5kn, Peak Speed: 8.3kn
  • Outside is Cool (64°F) & Humid (77%)
  • 10AM Port to Port M/V Shrug (N4665) Pass

Arrival: Somers Cove Marina (Crisfield, MD) 1:25PM (Slip G4)

Distance Cruised: 46 Miles

Special Comments:

  • Jacques was up at 5:17AM which in turn means we were up, this make for a long day!
  • Just realized anytime were onboard that Jacques has transitioned to wearing basketball style shorts and a t-shirt. Previously would wear dress short and a t-shirt. #RetirementLife
  • After a few email correspondence, pretty cool to pass Mike H (M/V Shrug, N4665) as they continue north. Never gets old crossing wakes with another Nordy!
  • Nice to incidentally see Nancy & Charlie B (M/V Bluewater, N4732) on Crisfield, MD approach.
  • Was really a uneventful smooth cruise which allowed for light cleaning and bruschetta prep work. Hence, the lagged log.
  • Corresponding via email since February 2024 our wakes finally crossed with fellow Nordhavn owners, Sara & Michael B (M/V Dutchess).
  • Fantastic dinner hosted by Charlie & Nancy B (M/V Bluewater, N4732) along with Sara & Michael B (M/V Dutchess). Officially our first Nordhavn Noodle (3 Nordhavn vessels)!

Next Stop: Deltaville Boatyard  (Deltaville, VA) (Monday, 9/22/25)

To continue following our journey checkout 2025 Marine Trawler Owners Association (MTOA) National Rendezvous.

Saturday, September 20, 2025 (Day 11)

Tied to the docks at Somers Cove Marina (Crisfield, MD) (Slip G4).

Special Comments:

  • Slowly MTOA burgees began to depart from G dock. Only a few MTOA stragglers remain.
  • Was nice to organically awaken and putz leisurely around this morning.
  • Charlie & Nancy B (M/V Bluewater) rented a gas golf cart for us to sightsee Crisfield, MD. Three hours including lunch and shopping was more than enough time for the rental.
  • Delicious meal at the From Scratch Restaurant (Crisfield, MD).
  • Toured the complimentary J Tawes Historical Museum (Crisfield, MD).
  • We visited the few gift shops we saw during our golf cart tour.
  • Disappointed to hear the gift shop formerly a bank building was closing at the end of the month. Even with a 50% sale, I didn’t buy anything because every space is full onboard. Such nice gift shop, The Bay Gift Vault.
  • After a brief “siesta” I had hoped to gather the stragglers like us for Docktails. Well, Mother Nature had other ideas. But, we gathered under the tent with picnic tables which was even better. Na Na, Mother Nature.

Sunday, September 21, 2025 (Day 12)

Tied to the docks at Somers Cove Marina (Crisfield, MD) (Slip G4).

Special Comments:

  • Slowly more MTOA burgees continue to depart from G dock. Very few MTOA stragglers remain.
  • We have heard “when you see one Nordhavn, you’ve seen one Nordhavn” and we have seen that with our own eyes as we compared the differences and similarities between M/V Bluewater (N4732) and M/V Soul Mates (4701) over the past week.
  • When Charlie offered to give Jacques a tour of his engine room. I think his eyes sparkled. There again, slightly different as they have two generators onboard (M/V Bluewater, N4732). That timely tour detected a main water leak. An because we like so many boaters believe in “help thy neighbor“. Their friendship is forever sealed as two fully figured senior men worked in tight quarters for three hours together! A bond only achievable after some blood, Boat Yoga, and sweat. Since, Nancy and I were comfortably conversing in their Stressless Recliners no “plumbers cracks” were noticed (LOL). Happy to report, with no evident leak, their toilets are flushing and running water is working too.
  • We enjoyed 5PM Docktails with fellow MTOA Members: Deb B & Mac R (M/V Janthina), Carolyn & Peter W (M/V Herron), Nancy & Charlie B (M/V Bluewater), and Sheila & Bill G (M/V Maka Honu).
  • Such a great day spent with the Charlie & Nancy B (M/V Bluewater, N4732). Nancy cooked a delicious lasagna for dinner. YUM!

Next Stop: Deltaville Boatyard  (Deltaville, VA) (Monday, 9/22/25)

Monday, September 22, 2025 (Day 13)

Departure: Somers Cove Marina (Crisfield, MD) (Slip G4) 7:50AM

Captain’s Report:

  • Calm Waters
  • Clear Sky
  • Cruising Average Speed 7kn, Peak Speed: 9.2kn
  • Outside is Cool (66°F) & Humid (73%)
  • 9:13AM Wide Open Throttle Speed Change (9.1kn)
  • 9:28AM Starboard Pass of Tangier Island, VA
  • 11:38AM M/V C: Drive Starboard Pass on our Port
  • 12:35PM Center Console Vessel Crossed our Bow

Arrival: Deltaville Boatyard (Deltaville, VA) 1:20PM

Distance Cruised: 37 Miles

Special Comments:

  • Cruising with Buddy Boat Charlie & Nancy B (M/V Bluewater, N4732) to Deltaville, VA.
  • Periodically, Jacques likes to open throttle for a few minutes to exercise the engine. To get the cowebs out, LOL.
  • Due to Somers Cove Marina (Crisfield, MD) low dockside electricity voltage, it’s “laundry day” while underway. Otherwise, we maybe forced to go naked in a few days.
  • Well, we may have left Crisfield, MD but we have some souvenirs of our stay. What souvenirs? Noseeum bites on our limbs, neck, and even face.
  • Upon our arrival at Deltaville Boatyard (Deltaville, VA) we learned a pelican hitched a ride and was feasting on a fish on our flybridge roof. He/she left some treasures for Jacques. LOL!
  • OMG, is parts of Jackson Creek Channel, VA narrow. Doubtful, two vessels of our size could pass through at the same time as both require to slightly turn. YIKES, we did it without incident!
  • After getting situated and showered, it was nice of Charlie & Nancy B (M/V Bluewater, N4732) to pick us up and take go sightseeing around Deltaville, VA. Followed by a delicious dinner at Deltaville Tap & Raw Bar (Deltaville, VA). The best peel and eat steamed shrimp we ever had!
  • Returning back to the vessel after dinner we noticed a guy pulling up a crab trap at the end of our starboard dock. Surprisedly, he retrieved half a bucket full of crabs.

Next Stop: Unknown Where & When

Tuesday, September 23, 2025 (Day 14)

Tied to the docks at Deltaville Boatyard (Deltaville, VA)

Special Comments:

  • Today, Charlie & Nancy B (M/V Bluewater, N4732) depart for their dirt home. Gosh, we’re going to miss them but, look forward to our wakes crossing again.
  • While we did not personally know fellow Marine Trawler Owners Association (MTOA) Member, Theresa Ann “TC” Vandenberg (obituary) her unexpected passing will forever reside with us. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Tom along with her friends and family.
  • This morning Eric from Deltaville Boatyard (Deltaville, VA) boarded (Day #1) to inspect and begin installing our automated generator start. Since, we did the battery upgrade over winter storage, this will allow Jacques to sleep while at anchorage/mooring ball or even if tendering around without concern of draining the batteries.
  • Later we would learn our security camera alert at 6:30AM on starboard of someone passing by to fish for 3-4 minutes was Eric. Early bird catches the fish. LOL!
  • Last evening, we noticed sporadic in water lights to our starboard. Upon inquiring with Eric, I learned these are fish lights. These lights are known to attract bait and fish. In all of our years of boating, we never saw such a thing. Well, of course we have seen underwater lights mounted on vessels for the cool effect.
  • Spoke with the employee that has crab traps at the end of both port side and starboard side that collected roughly 20 crabs today. He likes to collect them over the week to fest over the weekend amongst family. Uses chicken neck to attract the crabs.

Next Stop: Unknown Where & When

Wednesday, September 24, 2025 (Day 15)

Tied to the docks at Deltaville Boatyard (Deltaville, VA)

Special Comments:

  • Today, we learned that our website has achieved enough traffic that our online journal could earn us a supplemental income. By far, a get rich method. We do this for all the years that we were “dreamers” living vicariously through others. Our way to pay it forward and to help, inspire, and motivate others.
  • Eric from Deltaville Boatyard (Deltaville, VA) boarded (Day #2) onboard to install our automated generator start.
  • I’m absolutely stoked to have Innovative Screen Solutions (Toano, VA) onboard to finally install retractable Phantom Screens on 3 doors. Jacques is inclined to leave the doors open which quickly becomes a invitation for local fliers. I on the other hand can’t stand swatting bugs or cleaning up the mess they leave behind. These chilly mornings and evenings are prefect for swingin on the hook doors and windows open. Honestly, I’m gushing!
  • We took a stroll around Deltaville Boatyard (Deltaville, VA). Busy place!
  • After I clean the interior, make lunch, and do three loads of laundry, I inform Jacques he’s in charge of making dinner as he lounged. Somehow he managed to order a Pizza Hit for delivery. LOL!
  • Given our known short stay, Jacques decided to place a Amazon delivery for tomorrow, 9/24/25.
  • Jacques had the pleasure of meeting Deltaville Boatyard (Deltaville, VA) Heidi’s parents this evening.

Next Stop: Unknown Where & When

Thursday, September 25, 2025 (Day 16)

Tied to the docks at Deltaville Boatyard (Deltaville, VA)

Special Comments:

  • Eric from Deltaville Boatyard (Deltaville, VA) boarded (Day #3) onboard to install our automated generator start. Gosh, does it get a daily workout between going up/down our stairs, from the vessel to shop area many times throughout the day.
  • This morning, we learned of a dear friend breast cancer diagnosis. Fortunately, early detection and type means curable and treatable results. We’re holding them in our thoughts and prayers!
  • A shout out to Heidi at Deltaville Boatyard (Deltaville, VA) for loaning us the work truck this afternoon to provision, Deltaville Hometown IGA (Deltaville, VA). Just required a quick jumpstart. We truly appreciate it, thank you!
  • While instructed to leave the truck on while we shopped. I just couldn’t do it. So, like the RoadRunner, I whizzed up and down the isle for the must haves and left Jacques to order deli meat. Now, I grew up in a era where one did that but, in this day in age and responsible for someone else possession, I just couldn’t do it. A great reminder, as to how we have adapted to shopping for what’s available. With our dirt residence in Chester County, PA we would stop at six different grocery stores. Now, a past time luxury.
  • YIPPIE, it’s “Date Night” because the adjacent Deltaville Tap & Raw Bar is open and their peel and eat shrimp are the best we’ve ever eaten. We learned their from North Carolina. The Rum Punch is good too.

Next Stop: Unknown Where & When

Friday, September 26, 2025 (Day 17)

Tied to the docks at Deltaville Boatyard (Deltaville, VA)

Special Comments:

  • Last night, we had lightning, rain, and thunder. For about 5 – 10 minutes there was wind gusts that had us swaying in our slip.
  • Interesting amongst the locals that there’s a Southern accent.
  • Eric from Deltaville Boatyard (Deltaville, VA) onboard (Day #4) to install our automated generator start.
  • Well, at 9:25AM unexpectedly there was generator start test. Personally, it always freaks me out anytime mechanics are onboard. We’ve been burned so many times and endured so many nightmare of experiences from other vendors.
  • Well, around 1:30PM we had a “black outfor a few minutes compliments of Jacques. Ops, he overloaded the system.
  • By 2PM we could celebrate with the classic saying, “by Joe, he’s got it“. Thank you, Eric!
  • Gosh, the humidity has been brutal this week.
  • Jacques worked on redoing the Power Cord Adaptor that the vendor incorrectly mailed us. Given the weight, it was more cost effective to redo ourselves.

Next Stop: Solomons, MD (Monday, 9/29/25)

Saturday, September 27, 2025 (Day 18)

Tied to the docks at Deltaville Boatyard (Deltaville, VA)

Special Comments:

  • Foggy and rainy morning.
  • Well, just like that…Jacques was gone after breakfast. Off to clean and organize his engine room on this rainy day. (LOL!)
  • Planning to stay at anchorage in Solomons, MD Jacques tested the generator, which failed to start. U-G-H, it’s a good thing we’re still here.
  • Once, the work here is finished, we need to decide whether to #1 cruise to Solomon, MD -> Deale, MD -> Georgetown, MD or #2 cruise 18 hours to Georgetown, MD nonstop with regards to Hurricane Imelda becoming a local Tropical Storming. Not everyday onboard is fun and sunshine!
  • Burr, it’s chilly on this rainy day. Thankfully, we have hot chocolate and marshmallow’s on board.

Next Stop: Solomons, MD (Monday, 9/29/25)

Sunday, September 28, 2025 (Day 19)

Tied to the docks at Deltaville Boatyard (Deltaville, VA)

Special Comments:

  • In the wee hours of morning, during the rain showers our security camera captured the beautiful heron walking up and down our finger pier searching for a bite to eat. Smart heron as there’s 4 underwater fish lights to our starboard.
  • YAH, no rain this morning upon lazy morning awakening. Was nice to sleep in until 9AM.
  • We continue to monitor Hurricane Humberto & Hurricane Imelda. We anticipate some heavy rain and strong winds. We definitely can’t outrun any storm! It’s hard to not let the “what if” creep into your mind. So, glad we moved our vehicles to the upper parking lot at our home port marina as the lower level tends to flood.
  • Earlier this week while Eric from Deltaville Boatyard (Deltaville, VA) was knee deep in our Engine Room he noticed the Shaft Galvanic Connection was not installed. From afar it appeared to be but, we assume upon the shaft winter replacement the mechanic forgot. Good eye and catch, Eric. Jacques was able to properly fix it.
  • While I keep counting the days that we’re away from home. Jacques always reminds me we are home. True, but the comfort of having our vehicle and ability to get around makes it feel like home. Something I’ll need to adapt as we move south come winter and no longer own vehicles. Yet he finally gave up on fixing the Power Cord Adaptor until we’re back home and have access to stores. (LOL!)
  • Another gorgeous sunset tonight at 7:08PM. We just hate that their coming early and earlier.
  • Trying to chill after a long day of chores to watch TV in the salon. Some Catamaran beef head on the hard kept shooting a green laser light into our salon windows. Pitch black and the guy is trying to mark a line on his hull. Really dude! Maybe if we striped down naked and danced like we were in a nightclub he may have stopped sooner. (LOL!)

Next Stop: Solomons, MD (Monday, 9/29/25?)

Monday, September 29, 2025 (Day 20)

Tied to the docks at Deltaville Boatyard (Deltaville, VA)

Special Comments:

  • This morning projected local conditions concerning Hurricane Humberto and Tropical Storm Imelda conflict depending on the source. Honestly, Meterologist is the only job I know that you can be completely wrong and still be employed.
  • Eric from Deltaville Boatyard (Deltaville, VA) onboard (Day #5).
  • Absolutely love the convenience of a dockside pump out at Deltaville Boatyard (Deltaville, VA). More marinas should offer this to promote Clean Water Act (CBA).
  • Appears the Captain has changed his mind and wants to push on to Solomons, MD anchorage making for a 9 cruise vs. 6 hours to get ahead of Tropical Storm Imelda. A fluid situation, subject to change with little to no notice.

To continue following our journey proceed onto Deltaville, VA to Georgetown, MD for our home port return.

Next Stop: Solomons, MD Anchorage (Monday, 9/29/25)
