Some land obligations kept us tied to the docks far longer than either of us hoped to wrap up loose ends such as getting rid of two vehicles, Licensed Captain course, and medical appointments before we could head south for the winter.
For at least ten years, we have dreamt of this moment, we’re finally here and are completely stoked! How far south we go remains unknown as Florida continues to imposing anchoring restrictions in what is already at capacity with many marinas. Followed by the Bahamas entry fee costs. So, with no planned itinerary in mind, we’ll cruise at a much slower pace. Hopefully, we won’t regret our “wing it” mentality.

Special Comments:
- Sipping my morning coffee, I could feel a growing knot in my throat. It’s been a whirlwind of tasks since our boating season commenced on April 11, 2025. Noticing our starboard neighbor winterizing and preparing for winter storage, it hit me that our moment was finally here. We’re headed south. Tears of joy!
- Interesting USCG local announcement (2:36PM) of a mariner tied up a Channel Marker. HHHmmm!
- Coming into Spa Creek the sun glare made it nearly impossible to see anything.
- I had just set up my bow lines for the Mooring Ball when we were hailed, surprisingly it was Annapolis Yacht Basin Company with our slip assignment. We had called earlier in the afternoon but with the office closing at 4:30PM we couldn’t commit if for whatever reason we would need to throttle back. Dock attendent was quick with our lines and power cord. Told to settle up in the AM.
- Our starboard neighbor, M/V Winning Drive stretches 130′ long and make us feel like their tender. Owned by Steve Bisciotti, Baltimore Ravens owner, but we say, Go Eagles!

Special Comments:
- For all the years we have visited Annapolis, MD our time never permitted a tour of the United States Naval Academy (Annapolis, MD). Checkout our photos, United States Naval Academy (USNA).
- Followed by lunch at our favorite place, Cafe Normandie (Annapolis, MD). Always delicious, fresh ingredients and homemade.
- Picked up some Mango Sticky Rice to go for dinner from Tarin Thai Cuisine (Annapolis, MD).
- Upon our return, I noticed one of our black fender floating by the vessel. Fortunately, retrieved with some assistance from M/V Mischief without further incident.
- We had the pleasure of chatting with our new starboard neighbors (father and son) from Toronto, Canada onboard M/V Mischief on a time restraint to Florida. Eventually, couple (husband and wife) will commence the Great Loop.
- Briefly met our new port side neighbor, M/V Juanita.

Arrival: Calvert Marina (Solomons, MD) (Slip – Inner Long Dock) 12:45PM
Distance Cruised: 44 Miles
Special Comments:
- Preparing for departure overhead was a drone. Somewhere capturing us, so always wave for the camera.
- As I stood on the bow wrapping my lines for storage across Spa Creek my eye spotted another Nordhavn at Oasis. Looked like a N43 with a flybridge.
- Exiting Spa Creek there’s no doubt that Annapolis is considered “America’s Sailing Capital“.
- With the water reflection the Pilothouse had us cooking like a rotisserie chicken in 84°F (outside 60°F), opening port side door wasn’t enough ventilation so we opened starboard door too. Absolutely, loving our retractable Phantom Screen doors!
- Just as we were coming into the dock, Jacques lost steering. With a incoming sailing vessel on our bow, all I could do was flap my arms in distress and yell “we lost steering”, fortunately, they heard me and steered away. Dock hand heard me as well. So, what should have been easy docking was most armature and eventful. Bad timing! Issue happened once before shortly after our acquisition, some kind of electrical reboot. Since resolved.
- Upon our arrival at Calvert Marina (Solomons, MD) we were greeted by Kimberley & Eric of M/V Havaseas (N50). A youtube channel we began following onboard M/V Havaseas (N55) Alaska adventures. Cool! OMG, pooch, didn’t say, “Havaseas ya’ next time” like it does on their youtube intro. WONK, wonk. LOL!
- Due to incoming weather making for a unpleasant cruise we’re extending our Regatta Point Yachting Center (Deltaville, VA) until Thursday, 11/13/25 vs Tuesday, 11/11/25.
- We had a fantastic time with Jessica & Philip D (M/V Beautiful Mother) this evening. Delicious dinner at Bugeye Grill (Solomons, MD).

Arrival: Regatta Point Yachting Center (Deltaville, VA) 2PM
Distance Cruised: 55 Miles
Special Comments:
- While winds have delayed our Georgetown, MD departure we’re opting to cruise as weather windows permit for the best cruising experience. After all, that’s retirement life!
- Unfavorable winds on Tuesday, 11/11/25 we decided to extend our stay until Thursday, 11/13/25 at Regatta Point Yachting Center (Deltaville, VA).
- No photos or videos while underway because most of the cruise was just us with little sightings beyond water.
- Our friends Nancy & Charlie B (M/V Bluewater, N47) shortened their Fishing Bay anchorage stay due to incoming winds and docking. Of course disappointed for them, we selfishly were thrilled to have them greet us upon arrival. Followed by a delicious dinner at The Table Market & Restaurant (Deltaville, VA). To know, Jacques then ya’ know he couldn’t pass up the opportunity for soft coffee ice cream. While the large cinnamon bun caught my attention for breakfast tomorrow.
- At the moment, the sand man arrived with lead eyelids, the wind began whipping. Yelp, didn’t phase Jacques at all as he snored away. On a few occasions, I muttered “wwoooo“. Then pondering whether in high winds whether a fixed dock with piling or floating concrete dock with cleats is the best option. Jacques reassured me, we’re fine.

Special Comments:
- I awoke organically was up by 6AM so I went outside to check lines as after last evenings storm as Jacques remained peacefully sleeping. They were fine but, what captured my attention was a beautiful heron by our bow on the corner of the dock. Shockingly not even spoked by my presence. Disappointed I couldn’t capture a picture as my phone remained on the charger downstairs which would risk waking up Jacques.
- Well, well, well apparently howling Mother Nature did awaken Jacques at 4AM this morning, I on the other hand slept right through it.
- Chris B (M/V Paragon, N47) informed us this morning that the Centerville Bridge (Chesapeake, VA) south of Atlantic Yacht Basin (AYB) (Chesapeake, VA) is broken with no word yet when it will reopen. This poses a concern for “snowbirds“ like us and many others cruising south. The Dismal Swamp (only dredged every 5 years) or 25 a hour offshore run are both unfavorable. Fingers crossed it’s repaired soon!
- Face dock neighbor, M/V Blue Zone (Manship) is pushing off and headed to Norfolk, VA. Safe travels it’s gonna be a bumpy ride!
- From the pilothouse we clocked 33.3kn winds.
- Had a fantastic time with friends Nancy & Charlie B (M/V Bluewater, N47). Nancy served us delicious Monte Cristo for lunch. They took us to the Deltaville Market to provision. Scored some whole chestnuts, which is our seasonal roasting favorite.
- We finally met Sharyn & Tom S (M/V Further, N47). Our first “Nordy Noodle” with only N47 owners over dinner at Deltaville Tap & Raw Bar (Deltaville, VA). Too good of a time was being had to breakaway, and it was that moment Charlie invites everyone for dessert onboard M/V Bluewater. Nancy’s facial expression of surprise was utterly priceless. “Oh, Charlie“.
- Upon our vessel return we clocked winds from the pilothouse at 40kn. On 3 different occasions the wind had us leaning starboard, like rolling in the bed lean. Such didn’t seem to bother Jacques, but it was well past 1:30AM before I could fall asleep.

Special Comments:
- Today marks our 14th Wedding Anniversary (11/11/11) which is far different than past years. Because such a day falling on a weekday without hesitation from Jacques was a day off from work. Yelp, throughout these many years during his corporate tenor no conference, meeting, or war room was ever more important than our day! This year, he’s retired. It’s been our tradition to alternate in planning year after year. Well, this year, it was my turn to plan. As a planner, with uncertainty as to where exactly we would be as the attention to detail always seemed to matter. From a getaway with a full day of spa pampering (gosh, how we have indulged in some grand muds, salts, scrubs experiences), fine dining and entertainment. Well, until last week, I was stressing over all the logistics until the moment he grabbed my hand and looked at me, to say, “I have all I need right here, you and that’s enough for me”. Deltaville has very little to offer but as Sonny & Cher said, “I Got You Babe”. So, today, unlike any other year, we’re snuggled in our flannel pajamas, reminiscing about past years while binge watching shows, tossing in a load of laundry, and uncertain what’s for lunch or dinner. Yet, I wouldn’t change a thing because it’s who next to me that truly matters the most! He’s my anchor and my everything!
- Catamaran, S/V Kai Lani formerly on the dace dock relocated their vessel to our starboard. Winds must have been brutal there less protected.
- This afternoon, I received a call from my Neurologist office regarding an appointment for next Wednesday, 11/19/25. Not sure what the government shut down has to do with TeleHealth appointment request when I have Personal Choice insurance, not government funded Medicaid or Medicare. Forced to cancel the appointment.

- Interesting article surfacing amongst the Boating Community, Boater Arrested After Docking on Restricted Dock During Storm (Beaufort, SC). Controversial views whether the owner was in the right or wrong. What do you think?
- Sharyn & Tom S (M/V Further, N47) picked us up for lunch at Howard-Dooley Cafe (Mathew, VA). Afterwards we had the pleasure to meet their dogs, tour their vessel, and tour ours.

Arrival: Tidewater Yacht Marina (Portsmouth, VA) 4:20PM (Dock F)
Distance Cruised: 55 Miles
Special Comments:
- I had just stowed my lines in, snapped a few outdoor photos, came inside the pilothouse removed my headset and ventured downstairs to the galley for my first cup of coffee. When I felt a strange feeling under my feet. Yelp, we went aground in the channel!
- While aground it was nice for two different trawlers to give us a hail if there was anything they could do as they passed our port side.
- As we stayed aground at 9:20AM there was a USCG announcement about a partially submerged vessel in Spa Creek (Annapolis, MD).
- I lacked confidence that Tow Boat US small boat was going to be able tow us off the shoal, leaning port side we were off only for a short period time before currents and winds pushed us right back. The second time around, we were escorted out of the channel.
- During our evening dock walk, we couldn’t help but to notice a BEAUTIFUL Nordhavn, M/V Genesis (N6078) on E Dock. Interior lights were open but, we did not notice anybody, otherwise we would have knocked.
- Unless, you opt for a ocean crossing there’s really only one game in the town with shorter days in Coinjock, NC. We called, basically the only marina option, there’s a “waiting list“, even though we’re “wingin’ it” awaiting a call on the morning of just pushed the envelope, so we are further exploring other options.
- Noticed one of flame torches was missing. Asking Jacques if he stored it away, apparently donated to the water gods by a dockhand handling our lines during a recent stop. Thank goodness, for Amazon!

Special Comments:
- Our stay was to be overnight, however with unfavorable winds we’ve decided to extend our stay.
- Scooters rentals are not available by the marina for that one would need to ferry over across to bay to Norfolk, VA which we have already visited. Presume, if you have your own it’s otherwise permitted.
- Today we walked beyond the gates for lunch. Anytime we stop our cuisine preference search in no particular order: French, Italian, Puerto Rican, & Thai. Since it’s been a while we opted for Thai cuisine, we dined at Thai Basil (Portsmouth, VA). YUM! Anticipating a night at anchorage, even planned ahead with a order of Tum Yum to go. Especially, since nights are cold yet. The walk there was a nice stroll through the Old District, with much of the streets lined in uneven brick sidewalks. Some beautiful homes with arches, balconies, porch swings, and wrought iron. Without a doubt a late night tale of Ghost Walking the Streets featured on Lifetime or in the spirit of the upcoming holidays a chick flick Hallmark Special. Charming quaint town! True confession, with full bellies we did Uber back. My first time requesting an Uber ride! No, I don’t live under a rock, but rural life did require a vehicle to get around. And the few times we ever needed one…well, Jacques just handled it. But, considering we’re carless, this is the new normal. Whoever said ya’ can’t teach an ole dog new tricks, clearly was mistaken (LOL).
- Our new starboard neighbor and view is M/V Mr Chips, a 79’9″ Lazzara Yacht. Robert, Crew Member onboard says, hello to James Knight, Yacht Tech Sales. Apparently, he’s waxed lots of boats in the Palm Beach, FL area.
- We learned vessels over 65′ from November 1st – April 30th are restricted to 10kn due to whale mating season.

Special Comments:
- Not sure when it happened but, our starboard neighbor M/V Mr Chips (79’9″ Lazzara Yacht) is gone and our view restored. Surprisedly, we must have slept through all the thruster movement and noise. Because the Delivery Captain heavily used thrusters docking. According to Jacques the benefit of hydraulic thrusters. Actually, according to our starboard security camera they began detaching around 5:30AM.
- Brewing my first cup of coffee at 6:42AM I noticed a slow moving Carnival cruise line. Which has since docked along the Elizabeth River, VA.
- Shocking by our starboard security camera is how much traffic passes by in the early morning hours starting as early as 4:30AM. Based on the couples that have passed by throughout the day, we’re convinced many don’t use their heads onboard.
- Well, the plan after our morning coffee and before we could get into anything on board was to venture out for an early breakfast, upon my return I would make homemade pumpkin roll. Our morning was slightly hijacked, finalizing our next stop on Monday, 11/17/25. Plans confirmed, what a relief!
- On foot strolling a different route, we stumbled on an open air street market. Everything that you could imagine from butcher meats, fruits, homemade baked goods, homemade decor stuff, lotions, vegetables, etc and further realizing it was only Saturday. More importantly, this was something we had talked about and how to be opportunistic. A true pinch me moment, and reminder that we’re livin’ the moment only discussed for so many years. My younger inner self, was skipping and doing cartwheels down the market streets with collapsible bags now stuffed full with fresh goodies. OK, maybe a bit too far with the skipping and cartwheels. (LOL)
- Afterwards, Google maps had us walking off the main strip of eateries and shops, I began to think wires were crossed with someone overseas. Nope, as we arrived at our destination, Yoolks on US (Portsmouth, VA). Now, I can be pretty picky when it comes to my eggs and morning potatoes. Initially, I even frowned on potato cubes vs sliced home fries. Well, the greatest compliment to any chef are clean plates, we enjoyed every bite!
- Yesterday, we had already ordered our Uber ride when we noticed “walk-ins welcome” at Nailz2C and More (Portsmouth, VA). Well, to know us personally, then ya’ already know that we would never turn down the opportunity for a mani/pedi, gosh not even a couples massage for that matter. Like a scene from the 1999 Film, Steel Magnolias, we sat in the vacant hair drying chairs waiting our turn. Before, I could even become engrossed by a game of Scrabble on my phone, Miss Carol sat next to me. At 85 years young, not looking beyond 40. She could read me, like a book. A sweet tea and a porch swing I could have listened to Miss Carol’s stories all day long. For the curious minds, yelp Jacques gets mani and pedi’s too. He did not for many years but, waiting as he would in an empty nail salon, I encouraged him to hop in the seat next to me. He did, and has ever since.
- Bellies full, following our mani/pedi we strolled the scenic route along Elizabeth River, VA. Like a parent, spotting a child amongst the crowd on graduation day we spotted another Nordhavn at Waterside Marina (Norfolk, VA). No AIS, so we’re not sure who it is (yet).
- Like two kids, we stood along the shoreline observing Carnival Sunshine depart and spin on the Elizabeth River, VA. Happier than ever to be on this side of the river, as the ship holds roughly 3,753 passengers and 1,150 crew. The cruise ship decks were full of waving vacationers. The music was pumpin’! Somewhere is a viral video of an ole lady dancing to the YMCA by the Village People. After all, one can’t allow a good song to be wasted and not flap your arms in a Y-M-C-A. So, either you’re hearing the song now or admit it, did the hand motions. (LOL)
- We had the pleasure of meeting fellow Marine Trawler Owners Association (MTOA) Member, Jeff S (M/V Sea Star).
- Eventually, strolling back to our vessel. Surprisingly, with a peripheral view Jacques noticed the door open and lights on inside M/V Genesis (Nordhavn 60′). Somehow, our fatigued legs got a second wind as we ventured over to introduce ourselves. Lovely time chatting.
- No pajama retreat tonight as we’re awaiting the 9PM dock arrival of Youtube Channel VBlogger, InTooDeep. We have been watching Gus (M/V Serenity) for many years, so this is a special treat.
- So, the homemade pumpkin roll we be baked another day.
- FYI Southbound Cruisers…As of 11/15/25 7PM the Great Bridge Bridge (akaL Battlefield Boulevard) drawbridge in Chesapeake, VA is opening every 2 hours on even clock hour numbers 24/7 which is a change from last week’s limited schedule.
- We learned from Tim (M/V Genesis, N6078) the vessel was formerly the popular YouTube Channel, Encore that we watched.

Special Comments:
- For many years, we would regularly see Gus (M/V Sincerity) on Sunday mornings. Usually while sipping our morning coffee. Capturing our attention as topics range from acquisition, adventures, becoming a pilot, cooking, cruising, employment, friendships, illness, projects, repairs, romance, etc. A welcome distraction from our own boat chores and projects. On rare occasions, we would even say, WTF are you doin’ in our stern parenting voice? Now, his tales seem far less frequent than before, but we know he’s always on the go and livin’ his best life! Yesterday, Saturday, 11/15/25 on a cool evening (63°F), beyond our bedtime in Portsmouth, VA we had the pleasure to meet Gus and Brandon upon their marina arrival. For all the years that he was displayed through our TV to living vicariously through him at times to now being full-time cruisers recently ourselves, surreal. No shame, in sharing I “totally fanned out“, further proving you’re never to old in meeting the kid (no disrespect, as we have kids older than him). Around here we call him the kid or son which distinguishes him from all the other YouTube Channels (LOL). His YouTube Channel, In Too Deep. With untamed enthusiasm, Gus was completely graceful and welcoming. YELP, exactly as we grown to watch him on screen, he’s the same off screen. My brain, ears, and eyes completely confused for he only existed in a 29″ TV screen (LOL).
- We watched Gus & Brandon (M/V Sincerity) push off the dock this morning. Fair winds and following seas.
- As continue cruising south, and may return to Florida where we ever noticed an abundance of derelict vessels in 2023 during our reposition from FL to MD. We’re thrilled to learn about the BoatUS Foundation, nationally competitive grant program to remove abandoned and derelict vessels throughout coastal areas across our country.
- Well, if you ever attended the Annapolis Boat Show in Maryland without a doubt at some point you likely visited the Pusser’s Caribbean Grille and popular Pusser’s Painkiller cocktail. A staple which closed in 2024 but, fortunately relocated and opened at Lighthouse Point Marina (Baltimore, MD). The life lend by the late Pusser’s Founder, Charles S Tobias; RIP, fair winds and following seas. All the makings for a Hollywood film.
- Well, tasked today is chore day. Laundry and washing the boat. But, a bit too cool to be playing in cold water in these high winds, that task may have to wait another day.
- Between October – November, I would make many pumpkin rolls at our dirt residence. WOWser, this turned out to be a project. Removing everything around the stovetop (butcher block and basket) and everything out of the big primarily used as storage for bakeware. Every displaced into the salon. For someone who hates clutter, this was clutter in addition to doing laundry. Fingers crossed it takes just as good.

Distance Cruised: 44 Miles
Special Comments:
- Today, our thoughts and prayers are with our friend, Michelle undergoing a double mastectomy at 7:30AM following a recent Breast Cancer diagnosis.
- Normally the Draw Bridge by Gilmerton Bridge is open. However, with back to back rail passage, the operator left it closed due to lack of marine traffic.
- If you think driving on the road with sun glare, it’s even harder on the water. Both sets of eyes required navigating on the narrow part of the channel with all the small fishing boats (dinghy, kayaks, ets).
- The Great Bridge Lock opened 10 minutes earlier than expected with 4 vessels passing through, thereby costing us 2 hours to wait until the next opening at 10AM!!! So, what do you do…interior chores: empty dishwasher, prep coffee pot for tomorrow and vacuum. Mark, the Dock Attendant was great!
- We’re first in the lock on starboard with M/V Going Places #4, also AGLCA Members behind us also headed south. On our port side, M/V Respite.
- Recreational fishing vessel, M/V SeaLax hailed to put in front of anyone. Request denied as we all were waiting for the bridge to open. Furthermore, inbound traffic coming. If ya’ got someplace to be leave earlier!
- Two port side vessels last to dock at the lock rudely injected themselves in front of us on departure. To go 500 yards to dock at Atlantic Yacht Basin (Chesapeake, VA). It’s kinda like when you’re at a four way stop sign who has the right way to go first.
- OMG, these f!@# fishing boats passing everyone between the bridge. Ya’ must be the same car drivers that feel entitled and don’t yield on a highway.
- Just as we cleared Centerville Bridge In between bridges, I choose to sit quietly in the salon updating our website. More so, redirecting my focus. Periodically, yelling up to my Captain the distance between us and the following vessel. Also, my way of saying, I’m alert back here just needing my space. Well, one of the anxious motor vessels, M/V Playa Verde from the Great Bridge Lock was noticed dodging around vessels in the straight line. The distance between our stern and his bow was rapidly shrinking. Favoring our starboard to pass less than 10′ that distance was also quickly shrinking. Suddenly, unexpectedly M/V Playa Verde sharply turned port side to our stern with only inches to spare! Their anchor just passing through our open cockpit area with only a dark blue starboard hull streak of color in my sight. WTF!!! Yelling, up to Jacques. “he’s going to hit us”. The vessel continued straight ahead towards the narrow shoreline lined with dead wood. Jacques hailed him on VHF requesting, he kept a safe distance away from us! Well, that scary moment was entirely one sided because as soon as he could he was back on a mission to pass us again. This time on port side. No regard, for the chain of vessels ahead or behind us. Gosh, at this point it’s not even noon yet and my brain is singing Jimmy Buffet, “oh, it’s five o’clock somewhere“. OMG, now before you begin to ponder how quickly a “For Sale” sign goes up by the time we hit Florida, nope, that’s not happenin’, yet. I knew there would be plenty of amazing days, some good and frankly some not so good. This was just an “unbelievable moment” in a span of a day. By no means, even a reflection on Jacques, for his navigation, I do trust, it’s the other Captains that I don’t. Upon second docking attempt, we’re hunkered down for the night on a private dock at The Landing at Coinjock (boaters, go to Dockwa or DockShare) which bypasses the craze at Coinjock Marina (Coinjock, NC). We did pass a Nordhavn (N5536) docked there. Now, ask me who’s anchor is off to our bow? Yelp, ya’ guessed it, M/V Playa Verde! OMG, what a sense of humor the universe has today! Honestly, not even my creative mind can make this ship stuff up. (LOL)
- Operator of the Draw Bridge really had some attitude on VHF! Firstly, told us to speed up which is if anything 1/2 kn, then told us we would have to wait for the next opening (20 after) so we throttled back. Then hailed us to “hurry up, what are you waiting for“. WTF! Listen, I get it one likes to have fun while at work but, not the time or place! Our vessel weighs 90,000 lbs and just doesn’t stop on the time at cruising speed. I know appreciate and understand as to why M/V Genesis opted to cruise on the outside (ocean).
- Off shore cruising has 30+ boats. At our current location, there’s only a sailboat on motor in front of us and a power boat behind us.
Good to Know About the Great Bridge Lock
- Dock attendant onsite.
- Dock Attendant only wants you to pass onto their extended boat pole, the middle of your line. You’ll hold onto the end of the line. The dock attendant will loop the line middle around the dockside cleat. You pull and slack and tie off to your vessel cleat.
- Line removal is your responsibility.
- Lock port side tie will require your fenders prior to docking.
- Lock starboard tie has rubber fenders in great condition (no need for yours).
- Requires two lines, bow and stern.
- Whether engines are on or off is at the discretion of the vessels Captain.
- Wearing a lifejacket is a requirement.

Special Comments:
- One early alarm clock setting (5:30AM), seems to have my body thinkin’ today was a repeat of yesterday. UGH! (LOL)
- Noticing our bow neighbor moving around onboard, M/V Playa Verde Jacques offered to assist with detaching their lines. After all, we certainly didn’t want a repeat of yesterday!
- Our departure was slightly delayed this morning, observing faster trawlers coming up from Coinjock Marina (Coinjock, NC) so we waited until they passed.
- It’s been great that most of Captain’s gave us courtesy hail for a slow pass.
- Lindsay C Warren (aka: Alligator River) Bridge Replacement.
- Cruising along Alligator River, it’s absolutely mesmerizing to watch local birds dive for their next meal.
Alligator Swing Bridge Tips
- Have your US Coast Guard Documentation number before approach. We keep our number on our upper pilothouse dash to read off when asked.
- Swing Bridge Operator will ask you for your vessel name, documentation number, and whether you’re a power or sail vessel.
- Take note to the vessels around you, while the swing bridge opens on command, the bridge operator tends to open for a cluster of vessels. In our case, we had to slow down and wait for the next opening, approximately 15 – 20 minute wait.
- This evening our eyes feasted on the array of colors brushed along the skyline. By all the “AHH” and “OOO” it was just as magical as a firework display.

Arrival: Belhaven Marina (Belhaven, NC) 12:30PM
Distance Cruised: 33 Miles
Special Comments:
- Fortunately, for us we did not anchor further down the channel by marker 53 as that particular anchorage was crowded.
- WOWser, a deep sleep achieved swingin’ on the hook! So much so that neither of us even heard the automated generator starter kick on at 4AM. Perfect sleep with just our flannel sheets and quilted light blanket. No heat required! Doors and windows closed too. By 5:30AM we were sippin’ our morning coffee isolated at anchorage. Totally bummed, to be leaving this spectacular overnight anchorage! But, Jacques is more concerned to extend our stay, and wind direction could have us squatting. So, we’re cruising on to see what the town of Belhaven, NC has to offer. ***Checking, double checking, and triple checking given the wind direction and water depth, we felt comfortable staying overnight at Jitka’s Corner Anchorage (N35°40.367′ W76°01.716′) along the Alligator River, NC to shorten our cruising day from Coinjock, NC to Belhaven, NC. As we throttled forward this morning, we were pleased that we didn’t choose the second anchorage further down by marker 53 as it was crowded. Delighted were my bare feet as they hit the exterior deck floor, as that sobering coldness did not run from feet soles, intensive chill through my spine to my almost frostbitten fingers. (LOL!) I have tried to wear shoes on deck, but perhaps a Mermaid in the making personally find them a tripping hazard.
- Had to Google all the interesting looking trees growing along the Alligator River, NC along with exposed dead tree trunks. Atlantic White Cedar, Bald Cypress, and Tupelo Gum are most common. Also, found are American Sweetgum, Pond Pine, Red Bay, and Red Maple. Cruising along the narrow channel of Alligator River, NC is the perfect setting for Stephen King thriller with leading actress, Kathy Bates. Isolated with dead tree trunks protruding from the water shoreline.
- Always nice to see on multiple cruising days the buddy boats you pick up along the way like M/V Stella Maris.
- While exiting the Alligator River, NC we heard a sailboat hail a no wake pass as they lost engine power. Fortunately, not within our path but, presumably where the TowBoat US was headed.
- Learned from another Nordhavn owner, the vessel Nordhavn spotted from Portsmouth, VA was M/V Boreas (N5506) so we forward photos of the vessel at Waterside Marina (Norfolk, VA) to them.
Next Stop: ?? (Saturday, 11/22/25)

Thursday, November 20, 2025 (Day 15)
Docked: Belhaven Marina (Belhaven, NC)
Special Comments:
- Cool temps reaching 64F, we’ll take it.
- Well, M/V Stella Maris departed today, so we lost our Buddy Boat.
- Our stay here may be extended here due to incoming winds making cruising unfavorable.
- This morning, we hit the streets of Belhaven, NC on foot! Boasting family owned businesses on Pamlico Street, the main strip where locals and tourist meet. Every business front offers a landscaped place to sit, gesturing to slow down, stay, and visit for a while. Strolling along with our bellies rumbling we stopped at Gingerbread Bakery & O’Neals Snack Bar (Belhaven, NC) for breakfast. The vibe was like stepping back to a TV episode of “Cheers”, as you walk-in you’re greeted by a southern warm accent welcome, and for the locals, they’re greeted by name. Before long, ya’ realize you’re the tourist just passing through. Inquiring as to where we’ve been, where’s next, you begin to quickly understand why residents stay here. We even got to chat with Santa Claus expecting to make a grand appearance at an upcoming event.
- Slowly making our way back to the boat, we couldn’t miss the opportunity to checkout Riddick & Windley ACE Hardware (Belhaven, NC) as recommended to us. A store with packed aisles ranging from everything imaginable “his stuff“, “her stuff“, and to “our stuff“. In one stop shop, you can pick up a new drill, garden hoe, the latest paint color to jewelry, a spa lavender soap bar, holiday ware, and even festive sequence attire. So, what normally divides our shopping interest suddenly has us merging aisles together.
- Perhaps, one of our greatest enjoyment was hopping into the marina’s candy apple golf cart to hit the pavement and provision at Food Lion. Beefy tires that could make any off road adventurous fun. No seatbelts had us reliving our childhood days, like big kids, just with grays and wrinkles. (LOL) Every bump sliding on the leather seats reminding me to our first Harley Davidson Road Glide ride together, when I grasp the meaning to the t-shirts that read, “the bitch fell off“. However, in this situation, may best read, “grandma, got ran over by a golf cart“. (LOL)
- The Belhaven Memorial Museum (Belhaven, NC) was temporarily closed during our stay.
- We gained a starboard neighbor, a spotless Ocean Alexander mega yacht. Observed their extra large fenders upon docking almost got ripped off, slightly caught under the dock.

Friday, November 21, 2025 (Day 16)
Docked: Belhaven Marina (Belhaven, NC)
Special Comments:
- Jacques tipped out our berth sometime early this morning. I on the other hand, remained sound asleep until 8AM. Awoken by our starboard neighbor the Ocean Alexander heavily thrusting his way out of here.
- Gray and drizzly day today.
- In preparation, of our continuation of cruising. Jacques is doing some routine maintenance and checks in the engine room.
- We gained a new starboard neighbor, a beautiful Fleming. Jacques chatted with them while I did some chores. Even got to speak French with the wifey.
- So, with watering mouths today’s target, The Mad Batter (Belhaven, NC) for lunch. Now, whether our lunch side option was a prepackaged bag of Lay chips or a freshly baked cookie really seemed silly to ask us, considering our eyes were already feasting on the two bakery displays showcasing their mastery of sweets approaching the counter. Cookie, please! While I would have loved a sampling of everything on the menu, I opted for a Rueben and Jacques the Smoked Brisket. Our sandwiches were absolutely fresh and delicious. Like finger lickin’ good! Either sandwich could compete with any gastronomy metropolitan city. By all standards, the place is exceptionally clean and spotless, even down to the window sills and white blinds. Not one dust bunny sighted! So spotless, we were quick to assume a recent grand opening. So, intrigued I had to research further, nope they’ve been open since November 2021. Kudos, to the team given the amount of traffic we observed. The splashes of Danish decor has me convinced there’s some great stories and tales from across the pond. Every bite tasted like the secrets of baking and cooking based on from one generation to the next. Undoubtedly, where sweets are picked up to mark a special occasion or where folks gather to celebrate a joyous occasion as we witnessed.
- Leaving the marina, this evening the community support was never so apparent than our noticing all the vehicles (golf carts too) lining the side streets. There’s no sighting of a Hallmark film crew lurking behind a holly bush here. But, with the all festive holiday decor and lights lining the sidewalk of Pamlico Street at any moment one expects to see actress, Lacey Chabert and actor, Tyler Hynes laughing together while exiting from one of the boutique or antique shops capturing the local “Jingle & Mingle” tonight (6PM – 9PM). Sadly, this quaint town won’t be featured in this year’s Hallmark Christmas Extravaganza show; nope, it’s just a local affair. We weren’t sure what to expect, based on only what we knew, the image in our minds equivalent to a Black Friday sale back home in PA. Consumers hurdled like livestock with directional signs for the flow of aisle traffic guiding you straight to the cashier. Nope, not at all the vibe! Instead, every retailer offered complimentary beverages and hors d’oeuvres. Discounts were offered and socialization embraced. Passing through the aisles one could hear the conversations about holiday plans, loved ones updates, recipe exchanges, and weekend plans. Santa Claus, himself sat outside of Riddick & Windley ACE Hardware (Belhaven, NC) ready to hear all your Christmas wishes, further determining whether you’re on the “Naughty” or “Nice” List, after all judgement day is only 33 days away. Meanwhile, two carolers stood midway, bringing holiday cheer to any Scrooges amongst the crowd.
- Slowly, we continued to make our way down Pamlico Street towards the RiverBend Cultural Arts Center (Belhaven, NC). Before long, our noses understood all the rave about the Mexican Restaurant, El Mariachi Mex & Grill. As we entered RiverBend Cultural Arts Center (Belhaven, NC) the locals’ creativity and talent lined the walls. Our heads swiveled like an owl bobble head. Our code word and/or signal locked in before our tushies even sat down in agreement to discreetly make a dash for the main door if not our cup of tea (pun intended). As our luck would prevail our Will Call assigned seats had us directly behind fellow Nordhavn owners, Michelle & Chris (M/V Sundance, N55)! Gosh, don’t we wear egg faces well because the laughter we projected kept us strapped into our seats. Not even a nudge during intermission, as if to feel, “move your feet, lose your seat” was in play. Bravo, to the cast of “See How they Run” by Philip King featuring a classic British comedy play. You had us in stitches!

Saturday, November 22, 2025 (Day 17)
Docked: Belhaven Marina (Belhaven, NC)
Special Comments:
- Jacques decided to delay our departure by a day, Sunday, 11/23/25 vs Saturday, 11/22/25 due to unfavorable winds.
- So, we set off for lunch at Spoon River Artworks & Market (Belhaven, NC) today. To see for ourselves all the hype from the locals and fellow mariners. Well, well, well…the only way to say it, “you right”. You are captivated by the interior decor, from the hanging miniature chandelier lights which makes it elegant enough for the ladies wearing their mothers pearls, to the masculine touches of bird feathers throughout surrounded by pampas grass to say, gentlemen you’re welcome here too. The artwork, hutches, and pianos all gesture you’re home here, so just come as you are. And folks did, whether from barely brushed morning hair to Sunday’s best dressed and everything in between of all ages. Whether to choose breakfast or lunch would be difficult because we really wanted both and everything listed. In the end, we opted for lunch and our palates were pleased. Another dining venue in this quaint waterfront town that could very easily compete with any gastronomy metropolitan cities. Now, it’s your turn to decide!
- When we left the boat for lunch we were lightly dressed in pants and short sleeve shirts. Upon our boat return, we stripped down to shorts as the red liquid in a thermometer read 75F outside.
- One last run to the Food Lion before we depart tomorrow, Sunday, 11/23/25. For our seasonal tradition of Eggnog.

Special Comments:
- Our starboard neighbor the Fleming, M/V Spartina departed just before us. Heading to Beaufort, NC.
- This morning, M/V Sundance (N5524) will be departing from anchorage.
- Following departure, we passed M/V Paragon (N4719) docked at River Forest Manor Marina (Belhaven, NC). Sadly, our boat chores onboard prevented us with meeting up with Chris B.
- A fellow boater highly recommended the Re Mayo Seafood (Hobucken, NC) but, it was closed during our passing on a Sunday. Otherwise, open Monday – Saturday daily from 8AM – 5PM.
- Luken’s Island, NC a sprawling 7,473 inhabited acres. Ideal development for outdoor enthusiasts with the opportunity to fish (drum, flounder, striper, tarpon, and trout) and/or hunt (bear, deer, turkey, and waterfowl) is for sale, $24,000,000 (that’s 24 million).
- Our wakes keeps crossing with S/V No Plan B as they joined us at anchorage.
- Still a bit cold in the evenings until morning. So, homemade beef stroganoff was made for dinner. Comforting and warm.
- Our next stop, Taylor Creek Beaufort, NC Anchorage, roughly 3/4 of a mile from our stern is Beaufort, NC land which is visible but will take us at least hours to get around tomorrow.

Arrival: (Taylor Creek) Beaufort, NC Anchorage (N34°40.293′ W76°39.947′) 1PM
Distance Cruised: 28 Miles
Special Comments:
- I (Janet) was up at 5:30AM, anchorage sleeping always seems like a deeper sleep. While, sipping my second cup of coffee around 7AM, the automated generator starter attempted to kick on but, failed. Into the Engine Room Jacques went upon his awakening. Claiming it wasn’t getting enough fuel. Big sigh of relief, it’s fixed!
- Upon anchorage departure anything not double sided taped was quickly stowed away as we encountered 20kn winds with 1′ – 2′ swells. Departing two hours earlier than planned, with movement conditions to remain seated or be seated, made for a C- Report Card. As a result, no gourmet lunch will be served today (LOL)! For our non-boating land friends, this feels like slipping and sliding on icy roads. Although, far better than “pitching” which can be a harsh roller coaster ride (up, down, and repeat). Fortunately, it was short lived, well 47 minutes to be exact. Onto 1′ rollies. For our non-boating land friends, this feels like being in a pick-up truck on ice and snow under your tires with the occasional tail spinning side to side. In either situation, not bad enough for it to be captured on video. Only a few, OMG moments.
- Passing through the narrow channel with homes on either side of us, made me feel as though we were in a Christmas parade.
- Appears Beaufort, NC is the Capital for center console vessels.
- Shortly after our anchorage (N34°40.293′ W76°39.947′) arrival today, 11/24/25 along Taylor Creek (Beaufort, NC) we noticed just 200 yards off our starboard 3 grazing wild horses. Very cool!
- Since the tender had not been operated since late summer, by the time Jacques got it inflated and tested, we grabbed a quick bite to eat at The Dock House (Beaufort, NC). FYI…Grayden Paul Park offers a complimentary dinghy dock. Requires dockmaster registration (office located on the ground floor of The Dock House Restaurant) and less that 13′ long. Afterwards, a nice dinghy stroll. Saw two more wild horses. Interesting to watch the birds feed with the scraps from the fisherman’s area.
- By mid evening, our departure plans changed to Thursday, 11/27/25; we’re going offshore for roughly 10/+ hours. So, the suspense as to where we’ll be on Thanksgiving Day is over! I FINALLY remembered to take our Butterball 3lb turkey breast out of the freezer to hopefully brine soon. Turkey isn’t our particular meat of choice but, we did want to be somewhat traditional this year.
- By dark, I wanted to photograph the beautifully lit shoreline. BURR, no sooner did I step and unlock my phone that I retreated back in doors. Too cold!

Tuesday, November 25, 2025 (Day 20)
Departure: (Taylor Creek) Beaufort, NC Anchorage (N34°40.293′ W76°39.947′) 9:35AM
Captain’s Report:
- Calm Waters
- Breezy Winds (11 mph)
- Cruising Average Speed 5kn, Peak Speed: 5kn (No Wake Zone)
- Outside is Warm (70°F) & Humidity (63%)
Arrival: Homer’s Smith Docks & Marina (Beaufort, NC) (Slip D22) 10AM
Distance Cruised: 1 Mile
Special Comments:
- I (Janet) continue to be on a stint of early morning awakenings. No complaints for the beautiful sunrises witnessed.
- Once again at 7AM, the automated generator starter tried but failed to start. Jacques from the bed back to the engine room, to replace another filter. Reluctantly, started. However, not a quick fix as the transfer pump needs replaced. Without it, fuel can not be transferred providing fuel to our Hurricane Hydronic System which provides us heat and unlimited hot water. The unlimited hot water is nice with two back to back showers. Otherwise, a 13 gallon tank goes quickly.
- Between 8AM – 9AM we began to explore repair marinas between Beaufort, NC to Morehead City, NC. Sights set on Homer’s Smith Docks & Marina (Beaufort, NC). By 10:42AM the local marine mechanic, Greg Dennis (Gregory Poole Marine) was onboard troubleshooting before departing for his Thanksgiving holiday. For warning us, any parts order may extend our stay which we accepted given the Thanksgiving holiday. We were very lucky that the local marine mechanic, Greg was able to fix it. Small world, is that spent many years as the mechanic for M/V Bluewater (N4732).
Next Stop: Offshore -> Masonboro Inlet, NC Anchorage (Thursday, 11/27/25)?
Wednesday, November 26, 2025 (Day 21)
Docked: Homer’s Smith Docks & Marina (Beaufort, NC) (Slip D22)
Special Comments:
- WOW, hard to believe that tomorrow is already Thanksgiving Day!
- Fairly windy today with southwest, ranging from 15mph – 25mph.
- Our port side neighbor is a Fleming, M/V Spartina, the same one to our starboard during our Belhaven, NC stay. Honestly, what are the odds?!?!
- Walking the docks, “I spy” another Nordy, M/V Next Dimension (N4056). WONK, WONK, nobody was home.
- Now, on the north side of town, we enjoyed walking into town along the Historic District where there was no shortage of picket fences and porches. Therefore, timely to have lunch at Beaufort, NC, the oldest and continuously running business for the past 80 years, Royal James Cafe (Beaufort, NC). Since we’re burning off our lunch, stopping at The General Store (Beaufort, NC) for ice cream was warranted.
- The town is full of monster big pick-up’s. Like a competition commercial for Dodge and Ford. Also, noticeable are the ratio of white cars.
- A golf cart friendly town. Anything from 2 – 8 seats noted.
- Jacques struck out on finding a wet suit to fit shopping at the local
- Using the marina’s complimentary loaner van we were able to shop at Food Lion and see beyond where our walks would take us. Before us, in the checkout aisle stood a elderly gentleman, who was really tickled about buying a whole turkey for $4. However, at the time of check-out it was not $4, as a minimum purchase of $35 was required for such a price. Well, his enthusiasm deflated quicker than a helium balloon. While Jacques asked the cashier if we had more than $35 worth, the cashier responded with a yes. But, the elderly gentleman was gone. So, Jacques bolts outside to catch him to say, “sir, you forgot your turkey”. His face lit like a yellow helium smiley face. And while he gestured, to give us the $4, we respectfully declined and wished him a Happy Thanksgiving and when he can, just pay it forward. The moral of this story is not to gloat but to remind you to pay it forward in the season of giving. Random acts of kindness. Loading the marina complimentary loaner van, a special thank you to the young lady offering to take our cart back.

Beaufort, NC
Thursday, November 27, 2025 (Day 22) – Thanksgiving Day!
Docked: Homer’s Smith Docks & Marina (Beaufort, NC) (Slip D22)
Special Comments:
- This Thanksgiving Day is certainly far different than any other year!!! From a lifetime in a dirt home surrounded by loves with all the traditional trimmings to our moving waterfront condo in a new area, finally fulfilling our long time dream of living a nomadic lifestyle. Unwavered are all of our blessings!
- Well, the sun is shining (53F°), although wind whippin’ could give any updo hairdo the true meaning of a beehive, but we’re partially dressed in summerish lounge wear, so we’re not complaining.
- Planning our offshore crossing with possible duck-in stops along the way, has had our heads buried in electronics and books researching our options. Thinking we had a good plan, we simply wanted some reassurance, like two children reaching for security blankets. Certainly, not a job for “ghostbusters” (LOL) but who do you call? HHmmm! Well, may you have a candy apple red Batman phone too as our call was answered. Thank you, Kevin (M/V Serene, N52)!

Friday, November 28, 2025 (Day 23) – Black Friday!
Docked: Homer’s Smith Docks & Marina (Beaufort, NC) (Slip D22)
Special Comments:
- There’s plenty of “firsts” right now. And this Black Friday is just another example. If you enjoy shopping on Black Friday, well you’re our kinda peeps! To hit the mall/stores at an ungodly hour for the best possible deals. Chuckling at the arrows guiding you to the flow of traffic like livestock to the cashier line, thrilled for the best deals found as though Santa Claus himself dropped the prices just for you, commiserating with other shoppers amidst the madness. There is absolutely something “magical” about this time of year!
- This year…we’re preparing for our ocean crossing tomorrow, Saturday, 11/29/25 so we’ve focused on boat chores. Like Santa Claus checking his list, we have checked, rechecked, and triple checked weather conditions for tomorrow, Saturday, 11/29/25. If ya’ know, ya’ know…two words: New Jersey. So, let’s get those fingers crossed and a prayer chain going for an uneventful crossing.
At this time our plans are…
- Saturday, 11/29/25: Homer Smith Docks & Marina (Beaufort, NC) -> Offshore -> Masonboro Inlet, NC (Wrightsville Beach Anchorage, NC)
- Sunday, 11/30/25: Snows Cut, NC -> Southport, NC (3 Nights/Marina Stay?)
- Wednesday, 12/3/25: Southport, NC (Marina Stay?) -> Charleston, SC (Anchorage/Marina?)

Arrival: Masonboro Inlet, NC (Wrightsville Beach Anchorage, NC) (Saturday, 11/29/25) 4:40PM
Distance Cruised: 73 Miles
Special Comments:
- Last evening, 11/28/25 Jacques had to take Zicam in hopes of a short lived cold.
- Exiting the inlet Jacques saw a small pod of dolphins. By the time I ran up to the pilothouse, I completely missed them. Sipping my morning coffee in the salon.
- We were fortunate to see several pods of dolphins. Not as playful perhaps because it’s their morning feeding time.
- We got a Nordhavn Noodle on our ocean crossing. Behind us but quickly catching up were the former owners of our vessel (N4701) who upgraded to a N5509 (M/V Rehmat). Small world! Of course, we gave a hail and briefly chatted. Buddy Boat, M/V Bonne Vie (N6202).
- Continuing to research verify our cruising plans we decided to call Marine Trawler Owners Association (MTOA) Port Captains, John M (M/V Water Colors) and Robert C (M/V C-Breeze III) for their local knowledge about Snow’s Cut. Thank you, John and Robert. Anticipating a quiet overnight anchorage we were pleased to be warned about a parade and fireworks at along Masonboro Inlet, NC at Wrightsville Beach Anchorage, NC. 2025 NC Holiday Floatilla.

Distance Cruised: 23 Miles
Special Comments:
- WOWser, the locals showed up and threw down an amazing event last evening. Regardless of the frigid temperatures outside there were plenty of boats in the floatilla (boat parade). And the fireworks lasted longer than any one we’ve ever experienced. On at least 3 different occasions we thought it was the grand finale. Nope, it keep going. While anchored away from the crowd, we didn’t miss a thing. Most fortunate to observe it all from the comfort of our heated pilothouse along Wrightsville Beach, NC Anchorage (N34°11.445′ W77°48.666′). 2025 NC Holiday Floatilla.
- Last evening, Saturday, 11/29/25 after a 10/+ ocean crossing with our core muscles being flexed followed by spectator festivities we dropped in bed like lead falling from a rooftop. Somewhere between consciousness and coma state an alarm was heard. Jacques leaps out of bed, just to be clear this is not figuratively but, actual maneuvering. On the other hand, the flannel sheets were pulling me in like quicksand. Hearing the engine start, was a sobering awakening at 1AM. Once in the pilothouse noticing the outside spotlight on and Jacques focused on the display screens. Not sure what was happening, in a sleep walking-like trance I just put on my marriage saver headset, life jacket, and working gloves ready to go outside. What happened? Anchor dragging alarm! Not sure I did much in pitch darkness beyond freezing myself in 39.7kn winds. Given the alarm and winds, Jacques preferred to stay sleeping in the pilothouse (aka: mancave, dog house, LOL). I may or not have been absolutely giddy about returning to bed, for a starfish position, to yank and pull the blankets as I desire. Well, one hour of separation was not nearly enough time to fall back asleep. Captain returned, claiming his spot. WONK, WONK!
- Cruising along the scenic route Jacques claims to have seen a single dolphin on our bow. I did not see it. However, we did see some fins along the way, just no jumpers!
- SPOTLIGHT ATTENTION to our Greg Dennis for your follow-up text this morning, Sunday, 11/30/25 to inquire about how the automated generator starter is performing. She’s crankin’ and startin’ without any hesitation or support now! Thanks, again! Now, within our Boating Community, we all have horror stories to share about service providers. For the cost of a Belgian Beer, we’ll share ours (LOL)! On the flip side, when you do come across a “mechanic gem” don’t “become a hoarder“, give them praise and referrals!
- As we said farewell, to our Wrightsville Beach, NC anchorage and boasting shoreline of $1.5/+ million dollar waterfront properties for our short ocean crossing. The route was scenic! Beautiful isolated tree lined beaches on port side and plenty more $1.5/+ million dollar waterfront properties on starboard. Center consoles whizzing by as though their beepers just went off and are dashing off to the nearest Volunteer Fire Station. We passed some great spots for tucked away marsh grass coves to explore via kayak.
- HOLY GAMOLY, where’s our trophy?!?! From a scenic route, to dodging barges, and whatever starboard (right) turn we made, passing under the bridge with shoalings on both sides is not for the faint hearted! I don’t believe I breathed at all through that strip. This is what exactly makes us polar opposites from one another. Jacques…”wasn’t that great, did you see how we had to zig zag“…BLAH, BLAH, BLAh. Me…”OMG, well, that was skinny and scary. I’m pretty sure, I stopped breathing the entire cut“. LOL!
- Our first time backing into a longish and deep slip. Flawless! Both dock hands are exceptional. Upon approach, I spied another Nordhavn here. Only a matter of time until it’s revealed (LOL).
- Very kind, for Marine Trawler Owner Association (MTOA), local Port Captain, Robert C (M/V C-Breeze III) to walk over from his nearby residence in the rain to welcome and greet us.
Next Stop: Charleston, SC (Anchorage/Marina?) (Wednesday, 12/3/25)?

Monday, December 1, 2025 (Day 26)
Departure: Wrightsville Beach, NC Anchorage (N34°11.445′ W77°48.666′) 12:10PM
Docked: Morningstar Marinas Southport (Southport, NC) (Interior Fuel Dock T Head)
Special Comments:
- Our starboard neighbors, M/V Take A Breath pushed off the docks. Was nice to witness the two dock hands render assistance.
- Jacques walked the docks and meandered towards the Nordhavn spotted. No visible name but, visible signs of previously being named M/V Sea Trial.
- Jacques had the opportunity to speak with Rick C (J & J Boat Services) booked to dive and bottom clean this morning upon a catamaran arrival on the T head. For our intended use, he recommended a 5MM wet suit, pony bottle, and weights. Pro Tip: Before zipping, pour hot/warm water down your back, zip suit then jump in the water to minimize the water temperature shock.
- Watched a 72′ Azmuit vessel thrust his way to the fuel dock.
- We had the pleasure of chatting with our neighbors onboard S/V Splash House. A young adventurous couple
- It’s an overcast day, chilly with local temps of 50°F. But, we didn’t allow for a brisk walk to prevent us from tasting the local eatery, Provision Southport, North Carolina for lunch. Afterwards, walking along the shoreline taking in all the sights.
- The well preserved Downtown Shopping District area is where the exterior tells a tale from past eras, meanwhile the interior offers current and trendy shopping goods. My favorite stop, the Southport Market. From clothing, decor essentials, kitchen gadgets (my poison), and pantry items. Even to-go ice cream and freshly brewed coffee.
- From the sidewalk strolling along the residential area, is where palm tree leaves and magnolia tree branches touch. Surprisingly, some flowers are still in bloom. Historical houses from past eras proudly display their plaque markers. Boasting inviting wrap around porches and second story terraces. The amount of times I wanted to trespass and watch cars go by, too many to count. Newer houses decked in pastel colors, metal exterior window coverings and surname plaque markers. The slightest breeze perhaps a ghost shoulder tap and gesture. Nope, that was just falling acorn (LOL). Couples stroll holding hands and families push strollers. No doubt, as to why my favorite author, Nicholas Sparks and Hollywood producers choose this charming town with Victorian houses, enormous oak trees as a filming location for Safe Haven (2013) and A Walk to Remember (2002). Many others too.
- Hitting the streets by foot it was only a matter of time before our noses were red and ears frozen. So, we tucked in at Margaret & James Harper, Jr. Library
(Southport, NC) seeking warmth and lounging to read magazines. - Upon returning back to the marina, on a mission to identify the nameless spotted Nordhavn; the mystery was solved. We knocked and had the pleasure of meeting new Nordhavn owners, Catherine & Mark B (M/V What’s Next, N5540). Lovely couple!

Docked: Morningstar Marinas Southport (Southport, NC) (Interior Fuel Dock T Head)
Special Comments:
- A rainy day, we’re lounging onboard today. Actually, thrilled to be having breakfast onboard.
- M/V Captain Tom coming in for fuel, Jacques didn’t miss the opportunity to chat with the crew boat. We notice them regularly coming in and out, apparently delivering crew to the working barges and ships.
- We received a friendly call from Marine Trawler Owners Association (MTOA), Port Captain, Robert C (M/V C-Breeze III). Learned his residence (yellow house) was shown on The Waterfront (Netflix).
- Farewell, to our dock neighbors, S/V Splash House perhaps our wakes will cross again in the Bahamas.
- From Georgetown, MD to Southport, NC we have calculated 100 gallons of fuel consumption, roughly costing $300. If fuel was like alcohol our girl enjoys sipping a fine wine (LOL).

Special Comments:
- Our starboard neighbor and Cape Fear River buddy boat, M/V Bliss pushed off the dock this morning. Also, cruising south but, on the inside.
- Overnight our ocean crossing plans changed with unfavorable crossing as planned on Friday, 12/5/25. So, we scratched those plans and started back at the drawing board. Rather then 26 hours on the ocean we’re down to 3 1/2 hours and stopping in Myrtle Beach, SC.
- We finally finished our boat theme song!
- Another Azimut thruster his way in to our starboard to fuel up and stay overnight. Jacques had the pleasure of speaking with the hired full-time Captain, who cruises 10 hours a day often by himself or a friend along the way. Cruising at 22kn, has to fuel everyday, roughly $800 in fuel. Owner (not onboard) wants to spend Christmas in the Bahamas.
- We did not revisit the quaint shopping district for lunch and stroll as hoped with cruise planning. Nearly half of our 26 hour ocean crossing became unfavorable overnight. Was nice to have meals onboard, for a change.

Anchored: Frazer Point on Winyah Bay Anchorage (Georgetown, SC) (N33°18.402′ W79°16.862)
Special Comments:
- Last night, just as we laid down the wind picked up, clocked between 17 – 20kn. Fortunately, a good hold.
- Expecting to depart around 2PM, I took it upon myself to check the conditions before lifting anchor. Truly conflicting from his results to mine. Navigating in rain and fog, not my preference. Nearby marina options booked! High tensions between “go” and “no-go”. Staying at anchorage until the next weather window.

Special Comments:
- Well, Jacques went outside to remove the bridal and nearly froze to death. Insisting that I not go outside upon anchorage departure. Flawless departure without me standing on the bow giving anchor/chain direction.
- Cruising along the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) Jacques claims to have seen 2 dolphins. I didn’t see them.
- At low tide a section of the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW), Matthews Cut (connects Georgetown, SC & Winyah Bay, SC) would be impassable with a 6′ draft. However, calculating our departure (7AMish) and passage (10:21AMish) during high tide did not pose a issue.
- Sadden to hear about the boating accident in our ole boating stomping grounds, Fourth Annual Bohemia River Boaters Lighted Boat Parade (Chesapeake City, MD).
- Interesting to pass two houses completely off the grid, only accessible by boat. One well maintained and the other neglected.
- It’s been refreshing today for all vesssels coming up on our stern to give a VHF hail.
- By far, the lowest dock hand arrivals we ever encountered. but, I managed to lasso the 2 cleats by myself.

Special Comments:
- Fingers crossed as we transferred our med needs to CVS Charleston via the APP. Hours later, still reflects a “received” status. Yelp, we were quickly reminded as to why we walk away from CVS Pharmacy years ago for a privately owned business. Unbelievable that they dispensed the wrong medication as ordered. A blood thinner, something that I can’t live without, without greater health consequences. What should have been an easy pharmacy trip cost us two trips there.
- We had the pleasure of meeting the full-time Captain onboard M/V Odyseey (N6827). Hopefully, our wakes will cross again in warmer temperatures as it would be nice to pick his brain.
- We had the pleasure of sightseeing the downtown area and learning a bit about the rich history and culture by a guided tour.
- By evening we including us we counted 7 Nordhavns; one we know and two we met. Sadly, far to cold to knock and chat standing outside.
- Upon returning from our sightseeing, standing on the dock I noticed Snoopy (dog) and yelled, Carol? Yelp, we finally met Carol & John S (M/V Moondance, N3520). We have been following their YouTube Channel, MVMoondance for a few years, so it was awesome to finally meet them in person. Our wakes ill cross again!

- Docked on the mega dock was a cruise ship from American Cruise Lines.
- After walking in the bitter cold temperatures yesterday, 12/10/25 I welcomed interior boat chores today. Light cleaning and 5 loads of laundry.
- Jacques was tasked with a Publix grocery store run for bare essentials with consideration of anchoring the next few nights as we head towards warmer temperatures. Smart to asks the dock hand for w ride back to the boat, it’s 1/2 mile walk from land to our slip. Machines still running, it would have been nice to have dinner in the French Quarters but, instead he went off to deal with CVS Charleston. During the shuttle service to downtown, Jacques met a couple, Linda & Scott S that we were supposed to meet up on the Sassafras River, MD but didn’t (M/V Faith). Small world!

Special Comments:
- We’re still seeing the beautiful and curious dark gray dolphins around us here at anchorage. What a treat!
- We heard and saw many wild monkeys on the beach and trees this morning. Even a mom and baby. A lot of commotion could be heard from the wooded area, as though they were building or a fort or perhaps breaking branches from tree hopping.Very cool!
- After breakfast we dropped the anchor and took a tender stroll. Shortly, after our departure followed by a hard stop our VFH handheld went flying in the water. Fortunately, Jacques was not standing at that moment, otherwise he likely would have gone flying too. Yelp, he ran the tender aground too.
- Tending along the marshes, we noticed what appeared to be fairly recent a sailboats anchorage that went horribly wrong, beached in the marsh. No person noted on Bass Bay.
- We saw at least 4 dolphins/2 couples around us on Bass Bay. Absolutely amazing experience!
- Spectacular evening tender stroll with more dolphin sightings and beautiful sunsets.
- Be sure to checkout our Morgan Island, aka: Monkey Island Review for monkey sightings and pictures taken.
- Taking a shower before bed, we would quickly learn that our 5 Star Day would end in the Engine Room. Water pump replaced, pressure still not right. Task for tomorrow once at the dock.
This has been our favorite anchorage spot! If not for a upcoming good weather ocean crossing, we would stay until our water was running low!

- Equipped with a rental car, Sue & Larry T (M/V Beverly S, N4654) were kind enough to invite us along for a Publix (Hilton Head Island, SC) run. Honestly, the only thing we needed was milk and yogurt. Absolutely, delighted to see I’m not the only person who must do every aisle even though our grocery list is short, 2 things. Much to our surprise, the true shocker experience would be at the checkout aisle with half a cart full as we were greeted by 3 employees. Suspicious we may have interrupted their conversation about upcoming holiday plans. NOPE! They were all there for us, all 3 employees! Greeted by a elderly gentleman to unload our cart, a bubbly cashier as though we were her first customer of the day (we weren’t), and the friendliest bagger we ever met. Our jackets off perhaps gestured that we were travelers (could have also been my short sleeve shirt and sandals) just passing through and had us lingering around. WOW, talk about southern hospitality! Who knew grocery shopping could be such an experience.

Saturday, December 20, 2025 (Day 45)
Docked: Brunswick Landing Marina (Brunswick, GA) (Dock 0)
Special Comments:
- This morning, we headed to the adjacent open-air Farmer’s Market at Mary Ross Park (Brunswick, GA). Only a few vendors had us leaving with empty bags.
- Our last visit to Brunswick, GA was back in 2019. So, we were taken back by the homelessness observed around the lighthouse at the Mary Ross Waterfront Park which population seemingly grew in the historic downtown area. Departing the Mary Ross Park, we couldn’t help but to notice two homeless men trying to cross four lanes with all their possessions; one in a wheelchair with one leg and the other struggling with suitcases and walker. Of course, we helped.
- Our feet hit the streets of Historic Downtown Brunswick; where a small median grass patch and trees divide the streets with in and out traffic flow. Our eyes feasted on the festive holiday decorations lining the streets, our noses luring us from one eatery to the next, while shops slowed down our pace.
- With Jacques beginning to look like a twin brother of the late Albert Einstein (1879-1955), German Theoretical Physicist, to read “walk-ins welcome” at Elegance & Style Barber Lounge (Brunswick, GA) was the only sign we needed. A strong cologne aroma took our breath away, entering, perhaps to signify this is a gentleman’s place, station seats were replicas of past-time barber chairs, and bright lighting to capture Instagram-perfect creative line trims. Blaring Spanish music had even “my gringo” snapping his fingers, foot tappin’, and chair dancing. The moment that I regretted not listening to “my wise gringo” and needed to replace my phone, given my short battery life, with a dead phone to capture this moment. (LOL)
- Trying hard to live our best lives as minilists, where “beyond provisions” means “bring something on, take something off“. Well, I buckled stopping at Grace Graffiti (Brunswick, GA).
- With so many eateries to choose from, we opted for Basil Thai & Sushi (Brunswick, GA). YUMMY!
- While our dogs were barkin’ (feet), we surely didn’t want to miss the activities taking place back at the marina. Well, nothing says this year’s traditions look far differently than any lifetime of traditions with marina folks shucking fresh oysters in Christmas ugly sweaters! Yes, I said, sweaters, which is a surprise because we’re about ready to bring out the bikinis and Speedos in these temperatures. (LOL) Remember, we wear clothes solely for your eyes. (LOL!) As our luck would have it, we also had the opportunity to meet Bruce & Gina S (M/V SommerWind, N4724).

Special Comments:
- When we left the docks the tug boat (M/V Denis Morgan) was no where in sight. Suddenly passing closely by the city dock, we assumed he was moving to the next dock stop ahead, given his speed along with bow and stern wake. As we approached the bridge, suddenly he was gaining on our port, crossing in front of us to our bow to be starboard ahead of us. Waking us like crazy. Jacques had less than kind words to express. Where was he dashing off to, apparently to render aid to M/V Glovis Caravel approaching the bridge from the opposite side. Whoever that Captain was utterly careless and irresponsible!
- When we left the docks this morning, a roughly 45′ vessel was just untying their lines. They quickly caught up to us and passed us. Nonresponsive to a barge’s hail.
- So nice on departure that the morning dew did not freeze our feet this morning.
- Stray Cats is also staying at Fernandina Beach, FL.
- While underway we heard several air pilot hails regarding survillance below following sightings of whalees, requiring a 500′ distance.
- The Naval Submarine Base King Bay (St Mary, GA) consists of 16,000 acres.
- Our starboard neighbor, M/V Nightingale (2023 Grand Banks) a hired licensed Captain repositioning the vessel to the Bahamas sometime next year.

Special Comments:
- Reached out to AGLCA Member: George (M/V Caribbean Soul).
- The marina is like ghost town around here.
- Fortunately after a Facebook feed, I learned the local Publix is closed until sometime next year, Winn-Dixie is being converted to Aldi. Listening to the locals’ complaints a Midweek Market on Wednesday from 9AM – 1PM. Otherwise, nearby alternative being Harry Teeter or Walmart. Surprisingly, the City of Fernandina Beach’s free “Grocery Getter” shuttle to Yulee’s Winn-Dixie is still operating on Mondays and Thursdays, providing essential transport for residents needing groceries, though schedules slightly shifted in November 2025 to Tuesdays (Walmart) and Thursdays (Winn-Dixie). Runs from 9:30AM to 12PM with stops at key locations like the Atlantic Recreation Center, offering an hour to shop.

Special Comments:
- BURR, it’s cold! The cold front just isn’t up north. Just when I planning to take the flannel sheets of the bed. UGH!
- YIPPIE, more Amazon deliveries. One of which included my new laptop. Loving the 15″ screen (Apple MacBookAir) so much lighter than Jacques. I was surprised because this was one of Best Buy stores we had planned to stop and pick up a laptop while in Jacksonville, FL in the coming days.
- A great day lounging around in our pajamas.
- It’s been hard to put the memoir, Nobody’s Girl by Virginia Guiffre book down. Even Jacques has sparked a interest so after each chapter I provide cleft notes or read sections out loud in disbelief!
- Jacques had the pleasure of meeting new arrivals John & Suzanne K (M/V Aced Again).
- WOW, another unobstructed sunset view tonight. Pretty spectacular! While the marina filled up again it’s been awesome that the incoming hasn’t blocked our three starboard salon windows.

Special Comments:
- Today, we’re renting a Enterprise (Fernandina Beach, FL) car and heading to Jacksonville, FL.
- Gosh, was it strange to be in the front seat of a car. Given the local traffic, sensory overload. (LOL!) We noticed some car yoga was required getting in and out of this mid size vehicle. Either cars have shrunk or we become biggie size humans. (LOL)
- Our first shopping stop West Marine (Fernandina Beach, FL), Harbor Freight, followed by World Market (Jacksonville, FL) for all our fixes. Struck out with our preferred item at Sprouts (Jacksonville, FL).
