I’m personally not a deli roast beef kinda gal but, Jacques is so this recipe combined with Au Jus Gravy makes it a hit between us. This makes for a great appetizer or filling meal.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 Cup Unsalted Butter (melted)
- 3 Cups Water
- 1 Medium Onion (thinly chopped)
- Pepper (to taste)
- Salt (to taste)
- 4 – 6 Deli Roast Beef (sliced)
- 1 Packet Au Jus Gravy
- 6 – 8 Slices Provolone Cheese (sliced)
- 12 Slider Rolls
- 2 TBSP Onion Soup Mix
- 3 TBSP Unsalted Butter
- 2 TSP Fresh Thyme (finely chopped)
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Saute the onions in TBSP butter uncovered for roughly 10 minutes, stirring frequently, until they are soft and golden brown. Remove from heat. Add Pepper, Salt and Thyme, mix well.
Using a serrated knife, slice the rolls in half. Avoid separating and once sliced you should have a top and bottom. Place the roll bottoms in a nonstick baking dish. Top with Provolone Cheese, Deli Roast Beef, Onion mixture, Provolone Cheese, and roll top.
Melt stick of unsalted butter and add Onion Soup Mix. Brush and pour on top of rolls. Cover with aluminum foil. Bake for 25 minutes.
Bring Water to a boil and add Au Jus Gravy.
Serve hot and dunk rolls in the Au Jus Gravy.
Tips:
- Add more beef and cheese to your preference.
- Don’t be concerned about the butter drenching the bottom rolls as it will get absorbed.
- Don’t skip the Fresh Thyme.
- Leftovers last up to 3 days refrigerated.
- Leftover sandwiches completely cooled can last up 3 months in the freezer. Defrost and reheat in the oven.
- For a Potluck, individually wrap in Aluminum Foil along with condiment cups and lids.
- Optional add minced garlic and parsley to topping before baking.
- Personally, I like to use Martins Sweet Party Potato Mini 2″ Rolls.
- Personally, I like to use Lipton Dry Onion Soup Mix.
- Personally, I like to use McCormicks dry Au Jus Gravy packet. It is easy to make your own.
- Reheat the sliders in the oven and stove top for the Au Jus Gravy.
- Sautethe onions uncovered, stirring frequently, until they are soft and golden brown, roughly 10 minutes.
- Serve Au Jus Gravy in individual ramekin dishes.
- Substitute Au Jus Gravy with horseradish sauce, mayonnaise or mustard.
- Substitute Deli Roast Beef with sliced pot roast.
- Substitute Provolone for Gruyere, Mozzarella, Pepper Jack or Swiss cheese.
- Use either a white or yellow onion. Both caramelize nicely, white typically is used with Au Jus however yellow is most popular.
