White Vinegar Hacks on a Boat

All Purpose Surface Cleaner

• 1 Cup Vinegar
• 1 Gallon Water

Mix both ingredients well. Apply on the surface with a terry cloth. Rinse the surface well with clean water.

Buttermilk Substitute

No buttermilk onboard but, you have a pressing recipe that requires it. If you have regular milk and white vinegar you’re good. For each cup of buttermilk, put 1 TBSP of vinegar into a liquid measuring cup, then add enough milk to measure 1 cup. Stir, and sit for 5 minutes. It will curdle the milk and create the acidic, tangy flavor your recipe requires.

Catch Fruit Flies

They’re pesty and multiple quickly so act fast! In a small shallow dish, add a drop or two of dish soap liquid to 1 or 2 TBSP of white vinegar. Cover with plastic wrap, secure with a rubber band, use a fork or toothpick to poke tiny holes in the plastic, and leave it on the counter. Apple cider vinegar works better with it’s fruitier scent.

Drain Cleaner

It won’t fully clear a clogged pipe, but can wash away the debris that’s slowing things down. Pouring boiling water down the drain. Followed by 1 cup of baking soda, 1 cup of vinegar, and 1 cup of water. Then plug the drain to force the bubbles downward, wait 5 – 10 minutes before rinsing with more boiling water.

Fabric Stain Remover

• 2 TBSP Vinegar
• 2 TBSP Water

Mix both ingredients well. Apply on the fabric stained surface. Allow it to soak for 15 minutes. Gently rub the solution into the fabric and blot with a damp cloth.

Glass Window Cleaner

• 1 Cup Vinegar
• 1 Cup Water

Pour both ingredients into a spray bottle and mix well. Spray and wipe dry with a clean terry cloth.

Also, works on glass shower doors to remove the soap scum. Just wait 10 – 30 minutes before wiping, depending on the level of buildup.

Laundry Brightener

Add 1 Cup of Vinegar during the laundry machine wash cycle.

Laundry Fabric Softener

Add 1/2 cup of Vinegar during the laundry machine rinse cycle.

Laundry Freshener

Add 1 Cup of Vinegar during the laundry machine wash cycle. Great on mildew or smelly laundry.

Microwave Dried Foods

Add 1 cup of water and 1 TBSP of white vinegar in a microwave-safe bowl, then microwave for 3 – 4 minutes. Acidic steam will loosen whatever muck has accumulated; then use a damp cloth and a little dish soap to remove it.

Mildew Remover

• 1/2 Cup Salt
• 1/2 Cup  Vinegar

Mix both ingredients well until paste texture. Apply to the mildew area and allow it to rest for a few minutes. Scrub and rinse clean.

Mirror Cleaner

• 1 Cup Vinegar
• 1 Cup Water

Pour both ingredients into a spray bottle and mix well. Spray and wipe dry with a clean terry cloth.

Odor Eater

Small open containers with vinegar will absorb unpleasant aroamas and smells.

Pitcher & Water Bottles

Vinegar helps to loosen this biofilm. Use 1:1 combination of distilled white vinegar and very warm water, shake and let it soak for 15/+ minutes. Scrub, then rinse well.

Rust Remover

Apply vinegar to a rusted area and allow it to sit for a few hours before scrubbing and rinsing clean.

Showerhead Cleaner

Submerge your showerhead in a container of vinegar and let it sit for a minimum of 30 minutes or up to 2 hours. Rinse thoroughly and reattach. 

Water Spot Remover

• 1 Cup Vinegar
• 1 Cup Water

Pour both ingredients into a spray bottle and mix well. Spray water spots and wipe dry with a clean terry cloth.

Tips

• Always test a small hidden area before a visible area.
• Avoid mixing vinegar with other cleaning agents.
• Avoid using high concentrated vinegar.
• Do not substitute with Apple Cider Vinegar or Wine Vinegar.
• Makes for a great soap scum dissolver.
• Rinse your cloth regularly with clean water.
• The vinegar smell tends to disappear once dried.
• Thoroughly rinse the vinegar residue.
• Verify before use with your manufactures manual.
• Vinegar is a natural detergent, great for killing bacteria.
• Waxed areas may require reapplication due to the acidity.
