From 9 AM – 4 PM on Saturday, we attended a mariner’s First Aid & CPR with AED course at Annapolis School of Seamanship (Annapolis, MD) led by Brandon. Truly hope we never need to apply CPR, especially if underway!
My Course Takeaways:
- Administering CPR is a cardio workout.
- Think of musical beats for chest compressions, such as Baby Shark, Staying Alive, or I Will Survive, just to mention a few.
- The course qualifies for the Captain’s License requisite, something Jacques plans to do. CPR Certification is valid for 2 years.
- Everyone has a flat spot on the back of the head.
- Good Samaritan Law protects bystanders who come to the aid of another, whether their CPR Training is up-to-date or not.
- It is common for ribs to break when CPR is being performed.
- Since 2005, the compression ventilation ratio is 30:2 as opposed to 15:2.
With multiple party groups, we were thrilled that Carols Creek Cafe (Annapolis, MD), could accommodate our sit-down lunch with a quick turnaround request, given our lunch break from class. We could have chatted for hours about the “what if scenarios” administering CPR onboard.
