Departure: Sassafras River Anchorage, N39°22.087′ W76°01.431′ (Cecil County, MD) 7AM
Special Comments:
- Last night, we retired early and slept like babies. Jacques switched his alarm sound which startled me to death from a deep sleep.
- Interesting to be back at our home port area, and not feeling like we’re home, perhaps because we travel with our home, but rather returning to familiar waters.
- Finally, my back spasms are becoming further apart. Down to a dozen unexpected jerks.
- The current can be wicked around Chesapeake City Bridge, so we’re arriving at slack tide.
- BURR, is it nippy outside, 51°. Only reaching a high of 64°, with rain forecasted until Tuesday.
- WOW, while underway we picked up the AIS from M/V Emerald Lady, a beautiful custom steel hull vessel that we looked at, it’s still at Bo Bay.
- Jacques nailed backing in at Schaefer’s Marina (Chesapeake City, MD). All before our coffee, I’m impressed.
- Shortly, after our arrival, we departed to pick-up our car rental. Steven, Manager was kind enough to offer us a lift to Enterprise (Middletown, DE).
- Stopped for lunch at our favorite place, Toba Asian Fusion (Middletown, DE). Nice to walk in and they know who you are and what you’re likely to order. Disappointed to hear Kevin quit.
- OMG, traffic in Middletown, DE was bumper to bumper. A large public bus in a designated right turning lane became aggressive and tried to break the line and nearly whip out the passenger side. All to get into the far left turning lane.
- Essential provision, Giant (Middletown, DE). Gosh, we were so tickled to find Maier’s Italian Bread and Knautz Chipped Beef, something not found cruising southbound. We’ll be stocking up on those items next time.
- Amazon deliveries like it’s Christmas time. The restaurant must have been shocked to accidentally open a delivery box to find squishy pillows (LOL).

Special Comments:
- BURR! Another cold 52F and rainy day.
- We drove to our ole neck of woods, Chester County, PA. Stocked up on pasta essentials from San Marco Pasta (Downingtown, PA); hard to believe that I’ve been coming to this place since age 16, three generations addicted to their pasta. Picked up our mail at Staples (Downingtown, PA). Craving Chick-fil-A (Downingtown, PA) enjoyed lunch there. Replenished our inventory of favorite things from World Market (Downingtown, PA).
- Hoped to get a hair cut today however, so did have of the Chester County, PA population so we skipped that for another day.

Special Comments:
- BURR! Another cold 53F and drizzly day.
- Today, we hit the roads again! No antifreeze as hoped, but West Marine (New Castle, DE) did have some sales deals. Actually the busiest we’ve ever known them to be. Finally, found sandal replacement for Jacques at Ross (Newark, DE). One of Jacques favorite donuts places, Krispy Kreme (New Castle, DE), he was yumming through every bite given their freshness. Stocked up on select goods from BJ’s Wholesale Club (Newark, DE).Appears whatever issues had are now resolved with Sprouts Farmers Market (Middletown, DE) inventory of plantain chips.
- Late lunch/early dinner at Wayback Burgers (Middletown, DE). Jacques likes their burgers, honestly I can’t tell the difference from their or a McDonalds burger. Both are thin, greasy, and tasteless to me.
- Had the pleasure of meeting several Loopers.

Special Comments:
- BURR! Another cool (61F) overcast day. A bit foggy looking southbound on the C&D Canal.
- Surprised by the volume of vessels moving on the crappy weather day.
- Today Jacques has some routine engine room maintenance to tend too. While I focus on organizing and putting away the clutter accumulated over the past few days of shopping. Glad it’s a holiday with most businesses closed to stay home and more importantly just being “still“.
- Shocked by the number of jet ski’s on the water. BURR!

Special Comments:
- Jacques got up early, fasting to get his bloodwork done before his upcoming medical appointment.
- This weather is not helping my lower back spasms. Slowly recovering from the back spasms.
- This afternoon I had my dental consultation and xrays at Bear-Glascow Dental (Newark, DE). Pleased to say, no cavities, just repair of last years work. Given our location and the formers office, we found a practitioner near us.
- Afterwards, did some light shopping therapy at Home Goods (Middletown, DE).
- We enjoyed a waterfront view dinner at Schaefers Canal House (Chesapeake City, MD).

Doesn’t sound like a lot until you realize the tires rolled for 132 miles.

Special Comments:
- Today, another day of being “roadrunners“…Neither of us feel like we’re home, after all our home moves with us but, we do enjoy being in a familiar area. Stopped at Dunkin Donuts (Elkton, MD), they really do have the freshest donuts. After many years of passing by, we finally stopped at Northbrook MarketPlace (West Chester, PA) absolutely adorable place with dining options. Jacques tasked with the DMV (Malvern, PA) I set to kill two birds with one stone by finally getting a haircut, Supercuts (Lincoln Court Shopping Center) surprisingly he finished before me. A little bit of shopping therapy at HomeGoods (Exton, PA). Since, it’s been a long time of our favorite fast food we couldn’t miss the opportunity for Chick-fil-A (Downingtown, PA), they have such a high volume of traffic that the food is always served fresh and hot. Fulfilled our annual exam with our Hematologist (Exton, PA). Thrilled to be heading home (Chesapeake City, MD) but only after dessert at Jacques favorite ice place, Sweet Cowolines (Elkton, MD). Doesn’t sound like a lot until you realize the tires rolled for 111 miles.
- We thought we were slick to bypass the craze of the DMV (Malvern, PA) for DMV (Oxford, PA) to only learn they couldn’t help with Jacques photo card never received even after proof of payment received 22 days ago. Geeze, how times have changed. A Security Guard with a gun stationed inside. The independent 4 button machine providing a ticket, no manned by a person. Double the staff and flow of seats. More importantly, by no fault of him to request a copy would be a additional charge of $29. A temporary card was issued for 15 days and stamped in red font. Apparently, fraud is at a high so their using AI to verify with the photo that there’s not other photos of him elsewhere. Scary times we live in!
- Truly heartbreaking to see the Exton Square Mall (Exton, PA) with buckets throughout collecting rain water and corridor filthiness. Once, upon a time it was a frequent stop for my sons with the indoor play area. To our go to shopping place. Only Boscov’s (Exton, PA) remains. When I stopped at Clinique for a specific product, which they didn’t have in stock and directed to order online, this is why so many brick and mortar retailers are going out of business. For all the various make up stations, only one Representative. Back to resuming Amazon sales!
- Upon our marina arrival, we observed a cigarette vessel loosing control of his vessel moving sideways in the fairway with his bow very close to our port side hull. Jacques was ahead of me and boarding our vessel when the running dock hand asked if he could board our vessel, boarding the swim platform in effort to keep the vessel away from our vessel. The Captain of the cigarette vessel had to leap onto the bow to prevent hitting our hull. Meanwhile the first mate remained seated as though she was awaiting her cue in a beauty pageant. Simultaneously I’m yelling for Jacques to get to port ASAP as witness the incident. Fellow behind me says, “oh, it’s ok” to which I respond, “that’s my boat, and I’ll worry about my boat, thanks“. There’s a lot of public traffic with the cruise vessel and restaurant guest walking the docks after a meal or to catch the sunset. Once, Jacques arrives in the cockpit and sees what’s happening with the Captain apologizing as the vessel continues to maneuver sideways past us and the backs up almost hitting the dock, Jacques proceeds to ask him if he knows what he’s doin’.

Special Comments:
- Strong current plus winds had us swaying on the dock this morning. Kinda woke us up as if boaters weren’t respecting the no wake zone. Nope, just a combo of the two.
- Amazing how quickly time escaped us before we had to dash off for our date night dinner at Vietri’s Cucina & Market (Chesapeake City, MD). After following this page for awhile and five star reviews, we were both greatly disappointed. Our tastebuds expected to take us right back to Italy, a place where we visited on several occasions. Nope! Instead, loud American music playing and any ambiance was killed by four children in a tight dining room! A screeching toddler between bites had ready to go. There should be a age restriction of 12+.

Special Comments:
- OMG, we slept in until 9:30AM!!! UGH, not sure what that’s about but apparently our bodies needed it!
- Watched a unmarked MD Police fuel up. A open bow vessel pass with throttle forward disrespecting the no wake zone. Officer was kind to flash their lights but, when that didn’t work, he did go after him.
- Saw M/V Sundance (N5524) pass by.
- Funny to hear from the marina staff, the curiosity from smaller vessels how we managed to dock on the fairway interior docked. Yelp, timing at slack tide and slowly back in with starboard dock vessel.
- OMG, it’s absolutely mind blowing to see and hear the amount of boat that pull up to the dock unprepared with lines ready to toss. Doesn’t matter if there’s 2 or 10 onboard or whether their coming in to dock for the restaurant or fuel.
- We had an enjoyable cruise ride onboard M/V Summer Breeze with Captain Jeff and Bartender, Steven exploring C&D Canal, Elk and Bohemia River.

Special Comments:
- OMG, it’s June 1st already! Where has time gone, so quickly?
- For a Monday, the marina has been busy receiving overnight dockage.
- One never knows what you see tied to the docks. This morning a photographer with a special light appeared on the dock with a young model in a bikini with essentially a band for her top and dental floss bottoms posing by the marina backside office. Odd shot, with no vessel in sight and backdrop of the office and concrete bridge pillars. No photos on the face dock with the backdrop of the south side.
- Jacques set off to run some errands while I relish being “home alone“.
- The bikini model and photographer returned again this evening. This time standing in the parking lot with used vehicles as a back drop. Really don’t understand the poising locations, hopefully a legitimate firm.

- We headed to Havre de Grace, MD for lunch until no particular place appealed to us. So, we decided on Rock Hall, MD but, after stopping at the marine store, Sassafras Harbor (Georgetown, MD) found what we needed. Nice to see the improvements following Joe’s passing, although odd not to see him buzzung around the marina. Thereafter, Jacques hunger pains kicked in so we decided on It’s Masala TIme (Chestertown, MD). Delicious!
- Stopped at the Dollar Tree (Chestertown, MD) and Acme (Chestertown, MD).

- On the way back to the marina for all the times we passed, we stopped at Filasky’s Produce (Middletown, DE). Scored on a box of Valcenia oranges, something we haven’t had since our adventure began last year. Every port and every store up and down the east coast we have lucked out.

- Also nice to have no chores today as we relaxed and enjoyed lunch at Schaefers Canal House (Chesapeake City, MD).
- Hot and humid but, we enjoyed sitting on the dock at the self named, “Lovers Nest” area observing vessels navigate the current.
- Chuckled observing a solo duckling trying to navigate the current. Gosh, nothing says, “you old” then moments like this (LOL).
- Our former marina neighbors, M/V Lowcountry came in.

- We just observed four US Navy Yard Patrol (YP) cruise southbound on the C&D Canal.
- Observed a gentleman after fueling his catarman reach for something that fell into the water. Claiming victory, he also fell into the water. He tried to pull himself up but, his wet hands just had him sliding back in. The elderly struggled to pull him up, before I could yell out put the swim ladder down, the dock hand realized youthful stress was needed.
- M/V Aegis (N4014) arrived on the face dock overnight. We really enjoyed hearing about the years of life and cruising adventures!
- Just as we were wrapping up dinner, a female boarded our vessel. I leaped up tossing the salon door open followed by some profanity. Needless, to say, she was startled and scurried off headed toward the bar/restaurant area. Unbelievable! Now, I have zero tolerance for entitlement and trespassing! Also, conferential. Her quilt was evident when later confronted passing by and guarded by two men. Sadly, the party were fellow open bow boaters. Unbelievable!
