Bar Harbor, ME to Swan’s Island, ME

Friday, August 7, 2026

Departure: Bar Harbor Municipal Pier – Mooring Ball (Bar Harbor, ME) 8:45AM

Special Comments:

  • Awoken early morning, around 2AM – 3AM to a constant banging on our port side hull. Jacques got to investigate. It was the lobster trap straggler previously moved by the HarborMaster banging on our port side hull. Required to push it away with our longest boat pole.
  • Departure Day!
  • Well, this mornings departure was a special treat because I didn’t have to lift a finger. Apparently, being in the head when the Captain is ready to depart results in do-it-yourself. HHHmmmm!
  • UGH, just encountered my first fly bite. Looked like a regular fly but painful bite. Well, according to Google, during warm months, their notorious for these fly biting flies, “Maine State Bird“. Use scissor-like mouthparts to slice the skin and lap up blood, resulting in painful, and itchy welts.
  • Anchored in Mackerel Cove Jacques is desiring a favorite past time of bathing in the water. Now, this is a sight I wanna see, I even offered to gather the supplies for him. FYI…Water temperature in the sun is 61°F and 59°F in the shade.
  • Lovely sightings of Black Guillemot birds here.
  • What I love about anchoring is being deserted and grilling onboard. Jacques prepared a delicious grilled dinner.
  • YIKES, really fog soupy by 8PM!

Anchored: Mackerel Cove Anchorage, (N44°10.215′ W68°25.557′) (Swan’s Island, ME)

Special Comments:

  • Awoken to a soupy foggy morning. Followed by rain thereafter.
  • Jacques noticed that the main engine did not crank quickly crank over when turned upon departing from the mooring ball yesterday so he was on a investigative hunt, battery issue or alternator. Turns out the ChargeMaster Plus was not charging properly. A soft reset failed, but a hard reboot cycle resolved it.
  • Hot and humid day!
