• We both had a rough night trying to fall asleep after yesterday’s ordeal!
• Anchorage was a bit rolly. Relentless water flapping on the hull plus winds kept I was swaying so I got up at 4:45AM. Shortly, thereafter Jacques followed suit. Gonna make for a long day.
• Shocked by the number of small recreational vessels fishing during a small craft advisory. The first hour of our commute was bit pitchy. The seconds were too close otherwise it would have been tolerable. Fortunately, calmed down thereafter.
• Found this interesting article online, Sag Harbor Takes Stock of Its Moorings published in The East Hampton Pearl.
• Shocking how few boats are out here today.
• Upon our arrival we could hear drumming and chants. Turns out today is 12th Annual Port Jefferson Dragon Boat Race Festival (Port Jefferson, NY). Dancing, food trucks, live music, recreational paddling heats, traditional performances, and tug of war hosted at Jeanne Garant Harborfront Park (Port Jefferson, NY).
• My legs were so flared up that I actually elevated them above my heart today. I hate laying down during the day time. Upon our arrival they were still acting up enough that I actually laid down in bed for a hour. Also, pooped out. During my below deck rest, Jacques said above deck a small sailboat across the way came to check us out. Suddenly on approach, the wind stopped and they were quickly scrambling to turn on the engine before hitting us. On the bright side, he was able to chat with them and answer all their questions.

Moored: Murphy’s Marine Service Port Jefferson Launch & Water Taxi – Red Mooring Ball (Port Jefferson, NY)

Special Comments:

• Drizzly morning.
• Bummed, to cool and rainy to miss the outdoor Sunday Market this morning.
• Observed a bunch of sailboats head out from port all with nautical flags and each with a particular sign in loving memory of someone draped on the beam. Following some research, the sailboat procession was the Memorial Parade of Boats, a key highlight of the 17th Annual Port Jefferson Village Cup Regatta. It was so cold and rainy we felt so bad for them as they passed by us.
• Jacques making himself some homemade raisin bread. A first bake since we bought it and brought it onboard.
• Delicious home cooked dinner onboard. YUM!
• Confirmed with the incoming storm that we could extend as our stay as neccessary.

• Cool overcast morning.
• Jacques finally sliced into his homemade raisin bread. Seemed to enjoy it, said he would add more raisins next time. Otherwise, taste and texture was spot.
• Jacques went to shore for “he time” and to stretch his legs.
• S/V Luna arrived as our port mooring ball neighbor.

• Some occasional wind gusts causing a beam lean. Clocked at 24KN.
• Jacques headed to the docks for a trash run.
• He picked up lunch from Port Jeff Pizza (Port Jefferson, NY).

• Fortunately, for us Port Jefferson Harbor is widely considered one of the best protected natural harbors on the North Shore of Long Island. Surprised to hear the Launch Service operates at the Captain’s comfort. Known to operate in 50KN winds before.

• Winds: Strong northeast winds at 15 – 25 knots, with frequent gusts up to 30 – 35 knots.
• Seas: Waves building between 3′ – 5′ on the open Sound. Nothing in the harbor.
• General Weather: Breezy and sunny with temperatures holding in the mid 60’s.

• Gorgeous sunset, so hard to believe such a storm will hit us tomorrow.

Our Nor’Easter Update for Today:

• Port Jefferson, NY is under a Storm Watch as a significant offshore Nor’Easter tracks toward Long Island, bringing heavy rain, powerful winds, and coastal flooding risks starting Friday afternoon.
• On Friday, rain starts after 2PM. Wind Advisory taking effect at 2PM as northeast winds strengthen dramatically, with gusts projected to develop up to 55mph. Heavy rain overnight.
• Saturday will be peak impact with widespread heavy showers. Sustained winds will sit between 25 – 29mph, with dangerous gusts hitting 40 – 55 mph.

• Got a new port side sailboat neighbor. Appears to have disembarked via tender. Unattended anchored or moored vessels should not be permitted during such a storm. While I do understand it’s most economical, it’s also irresponsible. Further noting many don’t have chafe guards or even items that could blow in high winds stowed away.
• Outside is 62°F but, feels like 59°F.
• Shocking to see the ferry service in full operation and loaded every trip.
• Baked some Quesitos this afternoon. Easy breakfast or snack with Puff Pastry & Cream Cheese. I tend to skip the sugar honey coating and just dip in sugar. YUM!
• WOW, our port side neighbor returned at on the hour of when the storm was due to commence and wrap up a few lines laying on the deck and then left.
• Prepping Pumpkin & Cream Cheese Muffin batter for tomorrow’s breakfast.

Our Nor’Easter Update for Today:

• Still under a Coastal Flood Warning and Wind Advisory, as the slow-moving nor’easter begins to impact Long Island.
• Late morning, northeast at 23mph sustained, with stronger gusts picking up.
• Early evening, light, scattered showers are expected to develop between 4PM – 5PM (37% chance), turning into a steadier light rain by dusk.
• Rain will intensify dramatically after 7PM as the core of the storm edges closer. A 70% – 100% chance of heavy rain.
• Northeast winds will continue to tighten tonight, blowing steadily at 25 – 35 mph with localized gusts hitting up to 55 mph.

• Rainy and windy all night long. Periodically up to 38KN kept us moving. The occasional lean and tug would wake me up.
• Heated up two Pumpkin & Cream Cheese Muffins. Absolutely delicious! Even Jacques blessed it and he hates pumpkin.
• Ferry service running between Port Jefferson, NY and Bridgeport, CT (Bridgeport & Jefferson Ferry is operated by the Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Steamboat Company) has cancelled all services for today. Anticipates operating again tomorrow.
• Say the SeaTow head out late morning.
• Made a hearty casserole dish late lunch/early dinner.

• Another periodically 38KN kept us moving overnight. The occasional lean and tug would wake me up.
• Breezy, cold, foggy, and rainy this morning.
• Heated up two more Pumpkin & Cream Cheese Muffins. Even Jacques asked if that’s what was for breakfast.
• Ferry service running between Port Jefferson, NY and Bridgeport, CT (Bridgeport & Jefferson Ferry is operated by the Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Steamboat Company) has cancelled morning services for today. Anticipates operating again this afternoon, 2:15PM.
• Flooding has along Main Street and East Broadway in Port Jefferson Village. Businesses have deployed sandbags to protect their storefronts.

Moored: Murphy’s Marine Service Port Jefferson Launch & Water Taxi – Red Mooring Ball (Port Jefferson, NY)

Special Comments:

• Overcast gray day. At least no rain or winds.
• More Amazon packages arrived.
• Jacques went to shore to dispose of trash. Jacques learned that other vessels were not nearly as fortunate. One sailboat’s mast was bent into the water like a deep fishing pole under the strain. Another boat dragged its mooring ball entirely, drifting helplessly onto the nearby rocks and sustaining damage, while another vessel tragically sank altogether. It’s a sobering reminder of just how unforgiving the sea can be, and it makes us appreciate our sturdy home on the water even more.
• I finally finished my pilothouse tablecloth project. Starting on one for the salon table.
