2026 Voyages

Wrightsville Beach, NC to Bald Head Island, NC

Saturday, October 31, 2026

Departure: Anchorage – Wrightsville Beach, NC (N34°11.508′ W77°48.770′) 12PM

Special Comments:

  • Early morning we clocked winds at 28.7KN.
  • Observed M/C Fire Fly struggle to anchor for hours this morning. Jacques even hailed them offering to help. They declined and when we left they were still trying. Literally tried from 8AM – 12PM.
  • Had the pleasure of seeing a sailing school of teenagers in session sail past our hull.
  • Observed a senior wing foiling with a hydrofoil board maneuvering through the anchorage field. Fun to watch until he becomes your problem as he was navigating the narrow channel, so unsafe as he can’t see a thing and the constant arm pumping is fatiguing that Jacques gave 5 horn blows as we had no place to go in the narrow channel. He had to put the sail up over his head to see oncoming traffic.
  • Gosh, so much marine traffic on the ICW. It’s like center console haven around here.
  • Our wakes crossed again with M/V Bob Cat on Cape Fear, NC.
  • OMG, entering the Bald Head Island Marina Entrance Channel, locally referred to as the Marina Channel we ALMOST ran into the port side channel rocks. The passage is narrow, fortunately no vessels in front or behind us BUT, the current and wind was stronger than expected. A quick reverse saved the day but, needless to say, we were both shaken up. An while our slip was bow in which should have been easy, it wasn’t. Yelp, today we were the shit show!
  • Conveniently, picked up a take out dinner tonight from Will O’ The Wisp (Bald Head Island, NC).
  • No trick or treaters knocked on the hull for Halloween treats. WONK, Wonk!
