2014 Piloting (Navigation) for Boaters

We both took this classroom course offered by America’s Boating Club Valley Forge (ABCVF)formerly known as The Main Line Sail & Power Squadron (MLSPS) from March 18 – May 13, 2014 between 7PM – 9PM at Great Valley Middle School (Malvern, PA), instructed Russ Jones.

The Piloting course provided information on navigation, covering the basics of coastal and inland navigation. This all-new course focused on navigation as it is done on recreational boats today and embraces GPS as a primary navigation tool while covering enough of traditional techniques to find his/her way even if their GPS fails.

The course included many in-class exercises, developing the student’s skills through hands-on practice and learning. Some of the topics covered will include: Charts and their interpretation; Navigation aids and how they point to safe water; Plotting courses and determining direction and distance; The mariner’s compass and converting between True and Magnetic; Use of GPS typical GPS displays and information they provide.

Materials fee of $55.
