Departure: Safe Harbor Plymouth (Plymouth, MA) 8:30AM

Special Comments:

  • Departure Day!
  • Jacques taking out our trash to the dumpster, crosses the path of the Tow BoatUS preparing to head out for the day. Apparently, heading out concerning a vessel that capsized and sank. YIKES!
  • Jacques and I are really hoping to see some whales, which is a possibility. Geeze, considering how excited we get over dolphins, I can’t imagine a whale sighting. In hopes, of increasing our chances Jacques noticed whale watching vessels.
  • OMG, there are SO MANY lobster traps. In the channel and even in deep water, like Dorothy in the Wizard of OZ, “Toto, we’re no longer home“.
  • GOSH, the water is so smooth and silky. Making for a fantastic cruising morning, only if all passages could be like this!
  • No whales sighted. Not by lack of checking the App.
  • Smells really fishy as we approach Boston, MA.
  • Cruising the Boston Harbor is insane! There’s planes descending above for
Boston Logan International Airport (Boston, MA), a fleet of sail boats demanding “right away” in training (small motor boat guiding along them), ferry boats whizzing by, and barges. Honestly, no sooner did we enter the harbor, I was already to leave. I’m just not a city gal.
  • When we registered for the MTOA Flotilla we forgot about how exhausting they can be. The days are long and the pace greater than either of us care to extend. Frustration quickly grew with the general lack of communication, rather that text messages were sent to our boat landline. When addressed, it continued to happen which some found appropriate for us to be the punchline (we don’t know these organization folks, like that), neither of us found humor in that. If the mantra is “nice people’ than practice what you preach.
  • Holy Moly, is this marina tight!!! Definitely, not the someplace with a “new to us” wants to attempt docking. Fortunately, we were both on our game with Jacques navigating from the cockpit and me on bow. Coming into the fairway we had 1′ – 2′ on either side at any given time. Backing in with a vessel on the opposing face dock slip, a 1′ from bow to bow. By my standards, that’s too close for kissing!
  • Upon our arrival, we were able to coordinate with Steve, George Washington Toma TV & Appliance (Brockton, MA) and extend our marina stay for installation of the Bosch 500 Series for Tuesday, 6/30/26. Disappointed that the gray is no longer in stock as previously suggested, so we’re forced with white. Somewhere along the vessels life someone installed these Whirlpool washer and dryer but, improperly did so. They installed (2) 110 circuit from 120 without properly rewiring, causing a sutto neutral. These appliances should correct the issue.
  • Notified at 5:30PM, of 7PM dinner at Warren Tavern (Charlestown, MA) we opted to skip dinner since ours was being prepared.

Special Comments:

  • Rainy day! No wonder why our lower backs have been aching.
  • We’re so relieved to resume cruising at our pace.
  • Boston is buzzing with major events today, highlighted by massive citywide soccer celebrations, outdoor summer festivals, and lively neighborhood watch parties. Giant screens live streaming today’s soccer matches, Norway vs France (3PM) and Uruguay vs Spain (8PM).
  • Yesterday, 6/25/26 marks 6 weeks since we visited Atlantic Yacht Basin (Chesapeake, VA) regarding fall projects. Regardless, to calls, emails, and voicemails left, still no response. Our last attempt made today before we move on else. Why, must hiring boatyards and contractors be so difficult and frustrating?
  • Since, we’ve been cruising Jacques got some engine room maintenance to tend to today.
  • Delicious early lunch at Sweet Rice Charlestown Thai Sushi (Charlestown, MA). One of the best Mango Sticky Rice Desserts that we have had. The mango were absolutely prefect, no too ripe nor unripe.
  • For the few small things needed, we struck out shopping at ACE Hardware (Charlestown, MA). Managed to find a few items needed from CVS Pharmacy (Charlestown, MA).
  • We enjoyed walking around the adjacent neighborhood of Charlestown, MA area. Such a charming and clean city. Loved all the park benches throughout the city, just by the pasta restaurant, a resident of six years, John stopped and struck up a conversation with us offering some local tips.
  • Treated our feet to a spa treat at LUXE Nails & Co (Charlestown, MA).
  • Picked up some fresh fruits from Whole Foods Market (Charlestown, MA). Poor Jacques, after a few blocks, it weighed like a rock.
  • Well, Jacques hearing aids arrived today. After the performing the test, I definitely noticed the TV volume is set at my bedtime listening and now my normal speaking voice is being requested to be lowered (LOL). He also could hear sounds that he couldn’t before like a floor creak and oscillating fan.
  • Once nightfall set in, pretty cool to see the light and patriotic lite bridge.

Special Comments:

  • Jacques walked over to Emmi Bakery & Cafe (Boston, MA) for his freshly baked croissants this morning, 8AM when the doors opened (LOL).
  • We walked over to the historic Charlestown Navy Yard (Charlestown, MA) this morning for the ferry service, F/Y Rita to the Long Wharf area.
  • Anytime we stop a major city, we like to do a guided ride tour which provides a good overview followed by hitting specific places on foot. So, we chose the CityView Trolley Tours (Boston, MA) sightseeing the North End, Theater District, Back Bay, Beacon Hill, and West End area. Our driver guide, Hugo was absolutely a hoot.
  • Lunch outdoors at the Chart House (Boston, MA). Really good lobster bisque and lobster roll. Fantastic outdoor dining in 74F without bugs or humidity. Actually, kinda cool that the both of us had to relocate our seats into the sun.
  • Attended the Greenway Artisan Market (Boston, MA). So, much local talent. I loved several art pieces, if only I had the wall space.
  • Strolled western Boston, MA area on foot. Such a beautiful, clean, and crowded city.
  • Hopped back on the CityView Trolley Tours (Boston, MA) until Stop #4 where we hopped off and proceeded into the USS Constitution Museum & Shop (Boston, MA). Thereafter our feet had enough, so we took the scenic route of Boston Harborwalk back to boat. I tried to bribe Jacques to wheel me back in a dock cart but, he declined. He even lost the energy to walk up the hill for a ice cream cone (LOL).
  • Our hands were to slow capturing a photo of the historic Catholic event of thousands of participants marching through downtown Boston. Led by Boston Archbishop, Richard Henning, the faithful walked along portions of the historic Freedom Trail, passing by landmarks like Boston Common, the Old South Meeting House, and Charlestown. The procession was part of a massive East Coast route traveling toward Philadelphia to mark America’s 250th Anniversary. A moment of ahhhh!
  • Boston is one of the host cities for the World Cup. Downtown was packed with soccer fans celebrating at the FIFA Fan Festival at City Hall Plaza (Boston, MA). Many patriotic flags and soccer shirts worn by many.
  • The Red Sox vs. New York Yankees, one of baseball’s greatest rivalries is playing out live at a packed Fenway Park (Boston, MA) until Sunday night.
  • Once, back onboard we changed into comfy clothes and enjoyed a early leftover spaghetti dinner. Our dogs were killin’.

Special Comments:

  • This morning Jacques was tasked with some routine engine room work before we throttle forward on Wednesday, 7/1/26. Sometimes, it’s baffling how much we do for this lifestyle.
  • Observing our starboard neighbors preparing their vessel for the “first of the season” over these past few days was exhausting to watch. Surprisingly, they were back upon our boat return this evening.
  • We spent the day exploring Chinatown Boston. The only remaining historic Chinatown in New England.
  • Had the pleasure of listening and watching Contempo Band play.
  • Early dim sum dinner at Hei La Moon (Boston, MA).
  • With Asian goods hard to come by, we even provisioned.

Special Comments:

  • We had plans to visit Cambridge, MA today; however our morning procastination appeared to linger on.
  • By late afternoon, I even took a nap. I suspect the results of too much Vitamin D over the past few days. The marking on my cheek (due to years of facial sun exposure) is most prominent right now.
  • Had to empty out the pilothouse dry locker, remove the washer/dryer door (I was too concerned getting the machines in/out could break one of slabs and just not up for trying to get that repaired), relocate the exterior power cord, and remove any obstacles that the installers may experience (furniture, rugs, etc).
  • Our electrical part order due to arrive today was delayed. So, once the sun went down Jacques hailed a Uber to dash over to Lowe’s (Dedham, MA) whom had the part in stock.

Next Stop: Salem, MA? (Wednesday, 7/1/26)
