Kittery Point, ME to South Portland, ME

Thursday, July 9, 2026

Departure: Pepperrell Cove Anchorage (Kittery Point, ME) (N43°04.800′ W70° 42.523′) 6:30AM

Special Comments:

  • Departure day! As much as we love anchoring, we were happy to lift anchor due to excessive rolliness 24/7.
  • Gosh, even in 110′ of water one has to watch out for lobster traps.
  • As we’re cruising along Jacques advised he needs to do a engine room check as he’s periodically smelling something sweet like antifreeze. UGH, amidst the capital of traps. First Mates rarely have a choice or say. The good news, nothing detected.
  • Cruising in 3′ – 4′ swells but, because the periods are spanned apart it’s pleasant cruising.
  • Spotted another Nordhavn (M/V Dulcinea, N6309) docking at Dimillos Marina (Portland, ME).
  • YIKES, with a sharp port turn towards the marina as the channel is narrow.
  • Jacques checking into the office had the pleasure of chatting Gus from popular YouTube channel, InTooDeep. Jacques returned smerking, I was so bummed. HA, he didn’t remember meeting Jacques but, remembered me (Portsmouth, VA). Only requires jumping up and down with excitement (LOL). After dinner we went to D Dock but, he wasn’t on his vessel (Wonk, Wonk).
  • Shortly after our arrival, staff were onboard to scope our project requests. Some fiberglass and carpentry work. Had the pleasure of meeting the marina owner, Kip who occasionally is noted on the popular YouTube channel, InTooDeep with Gus.
  • Later we learned, South Port Marine (South Portland, ME) offers the best fuel prices around. Slow pump onsite with a 2000 gallon capacity. A mega yacht is arriving over the weekend for 5000 gallons. Truck delivery.
  • The former onsite restaurant, Saltwater Grille permanently closed. Fortunately, another option just across the road from the marina, dinner at The Send Brewing Company (Southport, ME). Interesting menu and place, the Karaage Sando was delicious.

Special Comments:

  • Tried a new coffee blend, LaVazza Super Crema as our preferred blend, LaVazza House Blend Perfectto is hard to come by in stores. YUK, we’ll stick to ordering online for delivery. Whole beans are hard to come by.
  • Online grocery order for delivery placed with Walmart (free delivery). Finding while anchored, tender explorations, or while underway we don’t tend to eat much primarily due to temperatures. Docked we tend to dine out at least once a day, although my stomach can’t tolerate more than 3 consecutive days. Delivery is always for staples of cream, fresh fruit, and vegetables. Cruising days still wipes us out.
  • Observed M/V Focs’e Fossils being towed in. We’ve been there, my heart felt for them! While underway their line got caught in the prop. Standing in the galley cutting strawberries and making dip (our seasonal fav), who do I see whiz by on a solowheel, the one and only Gus. On scene to assess the situation and return wearing a swimsuit. Mission accomplished within minutes. Back out the boaters went. Kudos, to this kid for figuring out how to live his best life at such a young age.

Next Stop: Harpswell, ME? (Wednesday, 7/15/26)

Saturday, July 11, 2026

Docked: South Port Marine (South Portland, ME) Slip A62

Special Comments:

  • Our starboard neighbor, M/V Ruffian (2001 Delta 124′) arrived with a center console leading the way through the narrow approach channel by marina staff person, Tyler. Well, we didn’t get the escort but, had four deck hands to catch lines, they only had two. A crewed vessel with a Captain and four deck crew onboard. Owners not onboard. Now, that’s livin‘. Gosh, the thrusters alone had the floating dock and us moving. Just a white wall view. Vessel is able to carry 9,200 fuel, 1,500 gallons of water and a 3,000NM range. Owned by the Chairman/CEO at Forest Health Services (Ann Arbor, MI) appears to be For Sale.
  • Poor M/V Ruffian crew no longer did they get tied up and situated that the fuel truck arrived so they had to move to the fuel dock. Such a short commute had the crew hustling to relocate the fenders which required two people and the lines. Gonna take hours to fill those fuel tanks.
  • While there was things to do and places to see, we enjoyed a relaxing day onboard.

Special Comments:

  • Our starboard neighbor, M/V Ruffian departed this morning.
  • The parent in us grinches every time we notice toddlers walking docks without a lifejacket on.
  • I challenged Jacques with a video intro creation, the amount sighs has me smiling.
  • We dropped the tender and were set to visit Peaks Island (Portland, ME). However, half there we were getting tossed around in boaters wakes so we aborted. Pivoted, dock at the Public Docks (maximum 6 hours) and explored by foot. Had the pleasure of chatting with a father and daughter, summer residents on Peak Island that just loaded a tv onboard their center console.
  • Spotted another Nordy at the gated Fore Points Marina (Portland, ME), enclosed flybridge door was open but nobody came outside (M/V Hawksnest, N6409). Believe we saw a N50 by the dead end of the Eastern Promenade Trail.
  • Stopped at the Standard Baking CO (Portland, ME) cause Jacques would never skip the chance for fresh baguette bread. Also, some goodies for breakfast tomorrow.
  • Lunch at Boone’s Fish House & Oyster Room (Portland, ME). Lobster Roll of course.
  • We were shocked by the volume of street homelessness. What I thought was one particular man standing with knees bent with what appeared to by stoned eyes a public worker thought he needed a meal and water.

Special Comments:

  • Workers onboard to commence repairing the starboard gelcoat scratch and the fuel tank frame seal cover that’s cracked.
  • New starboard neighbor, C/V Constellation arrived this morning. Further down the T Head not obstructing our view. LOVE it when that happens.
  • Whale sighting reported around Owl’s Head Lighthouse (Owl’s Head, ME) and Monroe Island (Owls Head, ME). May we get to be so lucky!
  • Got port neighbors this afternoon, M/V Sempre Avanti.
  • Light provisioning at Shaw’s Mill Creek (South Portland, ME) since within walking distance.
  • A outsourced carpenter came onboard to scope our project.
  • Noticed Jacques has not been wearing his hearing aids. Which means misheard sentences and words. Placed to watch Little House on the Prairie on Netflix. Interesting to observe all the other sounds he doesn’t hear as we becomes annoyed, once inserting the hearing aids.

Special Comments:

  • Awoken by a digital clock Jacques mounted in the pilothouse. Ops, he bumped the button.
  • Technician onsite to wrap up the fiberglass repair project.
  • Upon the arrival of the mechanic we’ll move the tender onto the dock (starboard) as requested to install the transducer.
  • So bummed for predeparture today of chores to decline lunch at Peaks Island (Portland, ME) with Laurie & James H (M/V Hawksnest, N6409). Hopefully, our wakes will further north.
  • Interesting orange color sun resulting from the Canadian wildfires this evening. No burning smell detected or difficulty breathing.
  • Light provisioning at Hannaford – Cottage Road within walking distance to/from the marina.
