Cape Charles, VA (Overnight Offshore) to Carteret County, NC

Tuesday, October 13, 2026

Docked: Cape Charles Town Docks (Cape Charles, VA) Slip B11 10:10AM (Left Fuel Dock 11:20AM

(Overnight Offshore Run)

Special Comments:

  • Our departure was delayed awaiting for a rising tide to fuel. OUCHY, with a 5% discount, it made inflated fuel prices competitive enough ($6.50 x 600.022/gal = $3,900.14 – $195.01 Discount + $222.31 Tax = $3,927.44). We had the pleasure of chatting with recent hire, AJ. Rerooted from Philadelphia, PA area.
  • Jacques changed his mind from Morehead City, NC to Beaufort, NC in not having to deal with the current.
  • In the afternoon (2:25PM) we got to see a pod of dolphins feeding. So, they weren’t interested in following or jumping.
  • Warship crossed our bow (3PM) from starboard.
  • Uneventful evening cruising.
  • During my shift, I got spooked twice with our outdoor camera coming on which shines a bright white light when a person is detected.

Next Stop: Town Creek Marina, Beaufort, NC (Wednesday, 10/14/26)

(Offshore Run)

Special Comments:

  • During the wee hours while I was sleeping Jacques canceled our Town Creek Marina REZ (Beaufort, NC) not wanting to dock at unfamiliar marina in the dark. Our estimated ETA 9PM or later.
  • Beautiful sunrise this morning.
  • Bummed our schedules didn’t coincide to meet up with Gari & Billy.
  • We enjoyed the last of morning treat from Mason Ave Bakery (Cape Charles, VA).
  • So quiet, I insisted Jacques take a morning nap downstairs in bed.
  • Surprised to see a pod of dolphins approach us in 78′ water depth. Great jumpers too. Sadly, Jacques missed it.
  • Seven hours into our voyage Jacques noticed the alternator wasn’t charging. Fortunately, he was able to Macgyver a temporary solution. He’s changed his mind again, rather then another overnight offshore run to Georgetown, SC and ride out the incoming weather. He wants to fix the alternator and ride out the weather in Beaufort, NC for the weekend.
  • In these panty hose style compression stockings, I’m feelin’ the heat and by 4PM just ready for a shower, air conditioning, and bed.
  • With favorable conditions my body insisted on a meal, so I made some panchetta spaghetti. YUM!
  • By 4PM, I was grouchy…hot, sweaty, and tired.
  • Arriving to anchorage in the dark is never fun! I stood next to Jacques watching the bottom grade and provided the depth while he monitored the shoaling and steered. No sooner did I mention a slight elevation that we went aground. Fortunately, Jacques was able to get us free.
  • A hot shower and none moving bed never felt so good. I even fell asleep by 9:30PM even though my bedtime usually isn’t until 11PM.
