Comments: During one of Jacques’ routine engine room checks, he detected a tiny, pinhole oil leak. On a hourly monitor duty, by early morning, the leak had slightly increased. Headsets (aka: Marriage Savers) on, Jacques was determined to hunt the source down. Meanwhile, up in the pilothouse, I stood ready at the helm, hanging on his every command: auto pilot off, neutral, forward, and resume auto pilot. The choreography worked. He found the culprit, the hose from the oil pump on the ZF transmission had sprung a leak. Calling the marina, Paula Davis, HarborMaster at Cape Charles Town Docks (Cape Charles, VA) offered a name and number for a local guy, Wes Brown (757-678-3506), Certified Diesel Mechanic at BB Boatworks Inc (Cape Charles, VA). Speaking with him while underway he was down in our engine room within an hour of lines tied tight.

When the local shop didn’t have enough supply he committed to picking up the line in Norfolk, VA the following day (Saturday, 10/10/26). The fitting had to be ordered and customized but, all through the process Wes effectively communicated via text message.

This all developed following a overnight offshore run from Atlantic City, NJ to Cape Charles, VA with a few more overnight offshore runs planned as well.

Repair Required: 4 Parker 5/8″ Hydro Hoses (2 Replaced & 2 Spares Onboard, $712.60) + Oil ($38.99)+ Labor ($375) = $1,126.59
