Departure: Reedy Point Anchorage (Delaware City, DE) N39°34.022′ W75°33.955′ 7:30AM
Special Comments:
- Gosh, we slept like babies last night with the gentle sway. Awoke before the alarm clock and completely refreshed.
- WELL, nothing says how much I’ve adapted to our cruising speed as we lift anchor and I say to Jacques from the salon sipping my morning coffee, “why are we going so fast“? WOWser, we’re cruising at 10.3KN!
- As cargo ship, Dole Chile passed us cruising at 16.2KN I asked if they could drop us a few jars of Dole Peaches. Honestly, we should have stock in this product as Jacques regularly consumes this stuff. He prefers the packaging vs the can or mini cup options.
- Well, we saw a large pod of dolphins coming towards us but, the moment I stepped on exterior deck they remained at a distance and stayed underwater. WONK, wonk!
- YIKES, we smell propane cruising along the Delaware Bay, so strong the aroma was turning our stomachs nauseas! Under local maritime rules are enforced by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Sector Delaware Bay, vessels, even commercial vessels are strictly prohibited from transferring dangerous cargo while at anchor. Propane is classified as a hazardous, flammable liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) prohibits “lightering” (the ship-to-ship transfer of bulk hazardous chemicals or oils to alter a vessel’s draft) within Delaware state waters under the Delaware Coastal Zone Act.
- Can’t actually describe why I love the Delaware Breakwater East End Lighthouse Anchorage so much. Then as we make the bend entrance around the lighthouse, we’re greeted by dolphins. Suddenly, reminded as to how they distract me and get me in trouble with the Captain (LOL). Since, not a sighting, just trouble makers (LOL)! Sadly, Jacques doesn’t share the same sediment, he tolerates it for overnight but, not much more than that. Even though there’s a break wall, he finds it way to exposed. Still ranks within my Top Six anchorage spots. Perhaps, because as you spin there’s a view from every window.
